In Wales UK weve had a bird flu warning. Were to keep our chickens inside for 30 days. I have absolutely nowheee ro keeo my girls indoors and no outside buildings either. Im worried sick and dont know what to do. I have 3 hens kept in the garden with a run onn their coup. I live in a small town...
Brilliant, thank you. So when it rains the ground doesn't go to sludge? Ours was grass where we put the chickens then the grass died and it became a hardish mud patch but as soon as it rains it goes all boggy.
Oh so if I spread bark on the patch we have on the grass for them that will absorb their poo and not turn to sludge when it rains? How do you keep it clean or does it not cause that much mess?
Thank you
I have 3 rescue chickens. We have a coop with small run and a pretty large run attached to it. We had them on a patch on the grass which was fine in the summer but now it's autumn in the UK it's very cold and wet. The grass/mud has turned to sludge and the girls were unhappy and dirty so we...
Thank you.
Yes that's the plan. We hope to have the new girls outside for a few weeks in the coop and at the moment our chicks are 10 weeks old, one is pretty big so ready to go out full time but the other is still on the small side so we may wait anyway for a couple of weeks and by that...
Thank you all.
I am worried about rescuing hens and them fighting my chicks or bringing illness to the coop.
I think that they will be in very bad condition as they've been caged hens.
I thought so. One is definitely crowing and the other started today with a croaky crow noise lol!
They can be quite aggressive too to the other chicks.
Thanks for replying.
I thought I'd post here. The one with the fluffy head of hair has been crowing for 2 weeks mainly just in the morning, copying our male lavender that's been crowing for a while. My silkies are 10 weeks ish. The other silkie with less hair but spikey started making a crowing noise this morning...
Ok, I think the 2 silkies we have are male and my dads friend is going to rehome them. I have 1 lavender bantam that I know is male as he found his voice at 5 weeks old and I am so very attached to him. I have 1 lavender female and I plan to rehome 2 rescue hens soon. Will it be an issue having...
Oh brilliant. Thank you. I am wondering now. One definitely acts male, but he has a huge ball of fluff like a round puff of hair on top of his head which I read is more a female look. It's so confusing.
