    Sapphire gem sex

So the size of the tail doesn't matter? I've always had Orpingtons and their tails never got this big this fast. So I was assuming these were male.

    Sapphire gem sex

Can you please tell me if these are roosters by the size of their tails? I'm guessing that the one with the short tail is a female. Am I right? They were from a straight run at TS.

Standard or Broad Breasted Bronze, What is my Turkey Breed ?

There's no strutting or gobbling. I was told that both turkeys I bought were hens. They whistle and sing and make a "pttt" sound. I hope they aren't broad because I really don't want to put them in the freezer.

Can anyone tell me if this is a broad breasted turkey or not?

Please Help! I'm so out of my element.

The only thing that worked with my ducks was a long piece of a 1x1. My husband opened door to the duck yard and I went around behind them holding out the stick herding them in. I didn't even have to get close enough to touch them. After about 3 times of this they just knew what I wanted and went...

When can you start giving chicks vegetables, scratch etc??

This is my first time with chicks after raising ducks. They are a week old now. I've given them lettuce leaves for a couple of days and they love it. They also have chick feed, too, of course, and plenty of fresh water. It's still too chilly to take them outside to play and scratch so I put feed...

    I found 8 eggs

Yes, I have 3 drakes and 4 hens. We were just going to collect them to eat. How long are they good for out there? The temp was around 26 this morning and didn't go above 40 all day. I was so surprised that I forgot to collect them!

    I found 8 eggs

While putting the ducks in the pen a little bit ago I saw 8 eggs right inside the door of their house. Do I need to do anything or just let nature take it's course? It's the first time anyone has laid any.

Dried mealworms, a mix of chopped greens and dry oatmeal or a can of regular corn.

    Help!!

Update: It seems that the key to getting our birds in their cage every night was very simple. They love to be on a schedule! We started going outside between 4-4:30 each night before it got dark and guided then into the pen. After about 3 times they caught right on and now it takes like 2...

And lead/guide them slowly. Ducks need time and can scare easily. We found out that if we go out at about the same time each evening and go through the same routine movements our ducks go right into their pen. Repetition and routine and a nice snack will work wonders.

    Cold winters

Our ducks have a winterized house inside a closed pen that they go in each night. There is a 100 watt lightbulb in the center that is on all the time now that it's cold. It keeps them toasty warm. You have to give them a place to get their feet off the cold ground and a warm spot out of the wind.
