Wow, I really appreciate your help. I did not notice that interior tack strip being like that! Just proves two heads are better than one! Great eye!
So how about if I put 2 new supports, evenly spaced and supported on the solid metal rail above the door? Also, how would I go about sawing that...
Hi Momchickof6! I have posted photos all throughout this project. Here's the Cliff Notes version though. Started with a stain/seal on every wooden surface throughout. Then I painted FlexSeal on the metal surfaces and trays inside and out. Next, the hardware cloth took forever, but did the 18"...
Are you thinking I should cut out the majority of the width of the front panel, about 8" wide? It's roughly about 5' across. I see where you're going with the ventilation. I must say that makes me shiver just a little! I confess I am not experienced with raising chickens in this NE Pennsylvania...
So I had just returned from Lowe's with a 2"x12" floor register when I saw your post. I got a plastic one so it wouldn't be affected by ammonia.
In the meantime, I received the covers from TarpsNow. Very nice, crystal clear, high quality with grommets on all four sides. Quite a bit of a...
Here's what I'm trying to seal up around the doors. Drafts with a capital "D". Both side doors are the same. There are doors right below these on either side, but they lead into the covered run area.
Also, for the ventilation issue, here are the pictures of the roof line and from inside the...
I'll check out the auto parts store for another alternative. Thanks for the idea! It should be much wider than they sell at Lowe's.
You know, I have read many times about needing ventilation. The corrugated roof panels do overlap the coop roof as you noted. I was thinking how to open it up...
Maybe the wooden furring strips would work. My idea after that was really redneck - cutting a bicycle inner tube in strips and tacking it on to the door to overlap the opening. Have I lived in the country TOO long?? LOL! Hey, I'm from the South and proud of it!
My use of the word brilliant is anything but condescending. I have been working on this project for months and am really out of ideas on closing the gaps in the doors. :)
I was seriously considering FRP panels until I took another look at how much deconstruction I'd have to do. The interior has the metal bar in the center and across both end doors. I have to climb into the coop...quite awkward to say the least. I'm 5'3" and 125# and it is fairly tight quarters...
Ah, I see. Your design definitely works with the scraper and bucket. So you try to do a "dusting" of the PDZ? Or more like a coating? I think I'll sprinkle it everywhere then, and likely end up with a kitty litter scoop. Now do you also use it in the run? And First Saturday lime, if you do use...
I am not qualified to answer that. But I see how you did your trays. All I can comment on is the flatter the surface, the easier to scrape. I like your feed bag recycle idea! Smart. That way you can put the whole shebang into the compost pile. I've read elsewhere that the PDZ is the way to go...
Where are you located? I know here in the Northern Tier of PA (NEPA) the sunset is quite dramatic now, today it was 4:37! It definitely sneaks up on you. Hopefully your second flock hunkered down with their rooster. He must have missed the time change. I know this year's seems to be more brutal...
Actually, it's this coop run combo:

I agree with your roofing comment. We actually added a 4"x4" post along the center line for support. And we all had to crawl on top to screw in the roofing...
