Topic of the Week - Heat Sources: Yes or No?

Thank you so much for your information. This is something we'll look into. Our electric company wants to get rich fast & this looks like a great alternative. Our 6 hens & 1 rooster thank you, also! 😊

Would you mind explaining your "battery power"? Sounds interesting. Thanks!

    Will her feathers grow back?

I am going to get a higher protein feed. However, we cannot free range as we have an overabundance of nasty, hungry hawks. Hubby has lost 3 Fantail pigeons (that snuck out on him) by the hawks.

    Will her feathers grow back?

STILL waiting for more feathers (she has grown a few on her back) but her butt is still bare. The others are regrowing their feathers but have stopped laying. 6 hens-0 to 1 egg a day & sometimes it's soft shelled. I guess these 3 year olds want to go on Social Security!

    Will her feathers grow back?

Here it is Fall & that same hen still is not growing feathers. She starts to get pinfeathers then they disappear. She still is a good layer, though. The other hens are regrowing their feathers after the molt but have taken a break from laying. I tried a higher protein laying mash with no...

Do you have more information on the Eco flow solar power station? Sounds interesting & something we might be able to use. Thanks!

Safest heater is to hang a radiator heater. We have used one for years.

    What Greens do chickens like?

Our chickens like "Romaine Lettuce", beet tops, broccoli (when the mood hits them), a little cabbage, apples & apple peels (no apple seeds) & they love chickweed & cooked rice. Chickens can be a bit fussy. Now ours are turning their beaks up at scratch feed at times. It's really trial & error.

Can snakes crawl up hardware cloth? (It seems the slimy buggers can slither up anything.) Our run is chain-link fence. How about installing hardware cloth over the chain-link? How far up?

    Featherless Hen

I have a small flock of 7 hens & 1 rooster. There is a hen that lost her back feathers a year & 1/2 ago. She starts to grow pinfeathers then they disappear. She made it through last winters cold & this summers extreme heat but I am afraid this won't last. She is a good layer. The other 7 are...

    Mystery Solved!

I like your emoji LOL What did you do to get rid of the snakes? We still have a lot of mice I guess because the snakes prefer eggs.

    Mystery Solved!

I recently posted about missing eggs & egg whites in the nest box. I placed wooden eggs in each next box. The other day I discovered one missing. Then a few days later there was a 6' black snake curled up in the nest box with a big tummy bulge. Gee, I wonder who the egg thief was. Now, with...
