Mediocre hatch and weak late chick

They were from the same hatch just much more spritely. I originally pulled them since they were pecking at the membrane a lot while this one was trying to hatch. I put them in with three small 2-week old lavender ameraucanas who are intimidated by the little OE’s haha.

Mediocre hatch and weak late chick

Ok will do right now. Should it go back into the incubator after that? Guessing it’s too weak to be with hatch mates in the brooder with a heat plate?

Mediocre hatch and weak late chick

Hi all, I just had my first bad hatch. Only 6 of 17 eggs hatched and they were all late. I believe it’s related to the deep cleaning I had to do after an acquaintance borrowed my incubator and gave it back absolutely filthy. I think the humidity measurement is off. Anyway, they were a bunch of...

    Rabbit cage as brooder

I actually snagged it off Facebook marketplace for 30 bucks!

    Rabbit cage as brooder

I use a heat plate instead of a light. It’s 12x12 so plenty of room for them to get away.

    Rabbit cage as brooder

Can I use this rabbit cage as a brooder? It’s 2x3 and I’m less concerned about space as I am the risk of them jumping up and getting their heads stuck through the bars. Is there a maximum spacing it should be for safety? Or should I line it with chick fencing?

    Brahma chick feathering slowly

One of my Brahmas grew up and feathered out waaaay slower than my other one did last year. She looked weeks behind at one point. I was worried she was either a roo or not well. She was super sassy and I was convinced she would be a roo but she’s a giant, fat, healthy, and still-sassy hen now and...

Cleaning a filthy Nuture Right 360 - help please!

Lol ok I feel dumb now! I wish she hadn’t stored it upside down. So much junk ended up in the electrical stuff. Do I need to worry about getting bleach up there or will the vacuum suffice?

Cleaning a filthy Nuture Right 360 - help please!

I (stupidly) loaned my brand new incubator to an acquaintance. I did get it back, but it is absolutely filthy. I was able to get the poop, dirty water residue, and food (wtf?) out of the base, but the very top around the orange tubes and the fan is covered in really fine hair(????). Like someone...

    Questions about winter ventilation

I suppose I should just bite the bullet and do it but I’m a mess with hardware cloth and always end up thankful for my tetanus shot, haha.

    Questions about winter ventilation

Thank you so much, I will pick up a couple of these vents this weekend. Can raccoons get in through a 2.5” opening in the eaves? They are surrounded by electric poultry netting and it usually measures 3,000 volts. No overhanging branches for them to use to get into it, either. I do think it is...

    Questions about winter ventilation

Wow, these are all such great suggestions, thank you @cavemanrich and @Ridgerunner! The ventilation in the eaves is on 2 sides, which are both 4’ long. Openings look to be about 2.5” or so? I’m attaching more photos. There is a small opening on the other sides where the metal roof is capped. I...

    Questions about winter ventilation

Hi! This is my first winter with my flock of 7 chickens and I’m not sure how to utilize my coop properly. It is taller than it is wide (they only sleep in it), and it has great ventilation for summer with a big drop down opening on the people door and a wide, short opening on the opposite side...

    Weird Easter Egger situation

This is SO interesting, thank you! I’ve noticed that the green eggs are blue on the inside.
