:wee
Their first night went without a problem. I put them under a 150W ceramic heat emitter (the 175W infrared heat bulb turned out to be way too strong) that I had still laying around from my snakes back in the days, and it turned out to be perfect for them. I woke up 4 times during the night...
UPDATE 3!
THE BABIES HATCHED SUCCESFULLY AND GOT THEIR FIRST REAL GLANCE OF THEIR SURROUNDINGS! :celebrate
Baby duckling one. This one needed a tiny little bit of help, since his head was preventing from the rest of the body to pop out (his foot and head were having a battle ). A very...
No, the water could be too cold for them then (shock) when the surrounding temperatures are that high. When sitting in the garage it should be fine. You'll need to change the water anyway more often than usually, soooo.... ;)
Don't worry, these things happen plenty of times. :)
Good on you for intervening. ;) Chances are high that the chick wouldn't have survived without you keeping a close eye on it. Well done!
Usually they take a few hours to fully stand on their legs. When one is really exhausted it might need...
Moving them to the garage is definitely an option during hot peaks (noon and afternoon).
1) Let them out when it cools down again (evening, night)
2) Bring them back in before noon, before the sun reaches its highest point (as well the temperature too).
3) Give them one kiddy pool in the garage...
Some chicks do struggle to get out. Like I said, I too had to assist one with the external pip (making a small hole at first and then making it large enough so it can stick its beak out). I took way too long by itself and was getting weaker by the hour. And the fact its air cell was smaller from...
Tell me about it. Even after all this time I still get anxiety attacks when it comes to hatching point.
Here it's two rescued Muscovy eggs that are hatching. :D Both are doing fine, though I slightly had to assist one with pipping externally. They are very active and "yelling", and the...
I myself use coconut oil to keep the membrane soft and wet. I too couldn't resist opening the lid :barnie , resulting in humidity dropping fast and taking it's time to recover back to its settings. As a result the membrane started to dry out pretty fast and had started to wrap itself around the...
UPDATE 2!
Duckling number two has now officially made the internal pip too!! Man, this one is kicking! I could literally feel it in my hands pecking at the shell! :wee I wonder if by tonight this one will be the first to hatch, though it always LOOKED smaller than the other one and younger. So...
Well, I used to drop in powder that chlorinates the water AND that was 100% safe for even the smallest children (you know, they sometimes drink from it, whether you like it or not). But it couldn't help against the water turning green and smelly in no time when the (3 Muscovy) ducks arrived and...
UPDATE!
We have the first internal pip, people! I repeat, we have the first internal pip! :wee
The duckling that was in an older stage has finally decided that it's nearly time to explore the world. I noticed it yesterday evening at 7:41PM local time, when I checked on them as per usual...
I have a pretty urgent question now though about the lockdown. As I said I have no clue at all how old these babies are, so now I'm trying to figure out when would be the right time to put them in lockdown and raise the humidity (and lower the temperature). I would like to give them the best...
