I was expecting to see a lot of fluid because of how swollen her abdomen was, but there was just a very small amount of slightly yellowish fluid that came out. There was what looked like a mix of liquid pus and yolk that came out of the oviduct through a very small hole (possibly made by me). I...
I have a 1-year-old Cuckoo Marans hen that died overnight. She's been acting normal up until about 2 days ago. She started hiding constantly and was getting picked on. I also noticed her abdomen was very swollen. She had started growing spurs too (about ½" long), which I didn't think anything of...
As of today there seems to be some progress. The chick was able to bend it's ankle a few times normally and take a few semi normal steps without falling. I noticed quite a bit of swelling around the knee though, so I trimmed some of the feathers and looked at it closer. His knee is bruised...
I have him wrapped up in a cup with his legs hobbled right now. He's been there since yesterday afternoon. Should I leave him until tomorrow or take him out tonight and see if there's any change?
Thanks for the pictures! I was debating whether or not to wrap it that way. If the leg isn't staying straight by tomorrow I will definitely try that. It looks like your chick healed perfectly!
Thanks for responding! I like your idea of massage therapy. I tried to slowly bend the leg a few times going a little farther each time. I also massaged the joint in between bending it. After 5-10 minutes the range of motion in the ankle had increased a lot. I didn't realize just how stiff the...
Hello! My peahen, Penny, hatched 5 peachicks on Monday night (I think). They all look very healthy except I think one has a splayed leg. It also seems like the ankle hyperextends. The chick can still move it's toes and they aren't curled. I tried to hobble the legs, but that doesn't seem to be...
I think they're about 6-6½ weeks old. I got them from Tractor Supply. It was an assortment of Wyandotte colors, but I don't remember which ones were listed. I think Ruff is gold laced. Tuff has a lot more black and a little bit of white. But, she looks quite a bit different than the silver Laced...
The feeder opening is only 2-3 inches wide, but she doesn't have a problem finding it now. I've seen her eat everyday. The water is a heated bucket that's actually for horses, but it's really easy for them to use. I checked her keel bone, she has more meat than some of the others.
