I am new to chickens, and I kept hearing about this infamous, lovely "egg song" that the hens sing. I imagined nice little tweet tweets, and coos and caas. It was a heavenly little tune I had imagined up, almost like a songbird singing first thing in the morning......then came the ...BAWK...
My white silkie is pretty bad at times, but my whire EE's are by far the worst! Seems like they are always covered in mud..poo..whatever else they can get into!
I am thinking about getting (or building) one that mounts to the wall. right now just in dishes on the ground.
I guess what I want to know is it is usless to light the coop at night if I put the food up? At least for now until I get the new feeder in.
Ok, so I understand that the girls need more light to continue laying. Is the purpose of lighting so they have longer times to eat? The reason I ask is, I have had a problem with mice so at night I try to make sure the food is up.
