Sick Layer Hen - Green Poop

Watching as I too have a hen like this. Quarantining right now and treating with corid but now wondering if it is cocci.

12/2022 - Roundworms - PLEASE Someone Help Me - Only have SafeGuard Pellets - Dosage

Hi! I believe the pellets have done some good as there were a couple of hens who seemed a bit lethargic and after having had their "pellet infused mash" in the mornings, they appear to have gotten some of their spunk back. I am waiting for the paste to arrive and plan to give them all a dose...

12/2022 - Roundworms - PLEASE Someone Help Me - Only have SafeGuard Pellets - Dosage

I have been using the pellets but breaking them up a bit (they like the crumbles - spoiled chickens) and they are so-so on the new mash. BUT - I ordered the paste to follow up with treatment in about 10 days - just to be sure. Thank you for all of your help!

12/2022 - Roundworms - PLEASE Someone Help Me - Only have SafeGuard Pellets - Dosage

Normally, I mix up about 1 cup of feed with 1/2 cup of oats and (sometimes some scrambled eggs ;-) but during this time, I'll leave the eggs out? So, I'll figure 6 days of that which is 9 cups of mash for that duration. I only thought of the morning mash as they all eat it and it is always...

12/2022 - Roundworms - PLEASE Someone Help Me - Only have SafeGuard Pellets - Dosage

Thank you very much! You don't know how much this made me feel better! I am concerned about them getting the right amount but was especially concerned with overdosing! Whew!

12/2022 - Roundworms - PLEASE Someone Help Me - Only have SafeGuard Pellets - Dosage

Hi! I've read a few posts on here and realize that the oral or topical dewormers are the preferred method; however, I only have the pellets and cannot easily go back to the store to return and get the paste. I'll get some next time I go but for now - my chickens need to be dewormed. Like -...

I have to ask as I worked for the Bureau in DC for 25 years, were you at HQ? I held various positions in various divisions but worked in ASD/HRD for probably 8 years (1990s).

4 week old chicks & field trip outside - Avian flu?

I've been reading - as I'm sure all of us have - about the avian bird flu precautions. We have had a case in 2 counties around us each but nothing in our immediate area has been reported. I was going to take "the girls" outside as it is 82 degrees and absolutely gorgeous - in an effort to...

Official Chickie Mama - I Treated Pasty Butt

They are doing great! We've made a bigger brooder for them and have introduced the dirt bath... They are loving it!

    Spoiled Chick?

Would putting a towel or something over the brooder help with warmth? I'm using a dog kennel for now. (This pic is from the first day I got them and they have bedding along with feeder and a small tree branch in there now.)

    Spoiled Chick?

I just lowered the heat plate. I chose the heat plate (Brunsea) as I got it on sale (major score!) and after reading many stories about the lamps, I figured it would be best for my peace of mind (I'm terrified of fire after a house fire when I was little). I'm sure they'll will be fine but...

    Spoiled Chick?

Ok - I'm going to go lower their plate a little and see if that makes them more comfortable. And here I thought I was their favorite already :D

    Spoiled Chick?

Their heat plate appears to be comfortable and my son actually turned up the thermostat upstairs as he wanted to make sure its warm enough (he prefers cooler temps so this was his sacrifice :) It's about 75 degrees ambient in the rooms. They seem to enjoy being out and eating/drinking and then...

    Spoiled Chick?

My chicks are only a week old and I do believe I have a couple who are already spoiled rotten :-) I make sure they have feed, water, their heat plate is warm and toasty, brooder shavings are cleaned every day, yes - I've introduced some scrambled eggs 2x a day (and grit) and going to 1x...
