Is anyone in the central part of the state interested in splitting a load of transitional layer feed (17% no soy)? I buy it from Buckwheat Growers in Wadena, MN. Send me a message if you do :)
I purchased this door also and love it. The only time it did not shut all the way was when a big piece of chicken poo froze in the door frame and physically blocked the door. I grabbed the magnet, opened the door, removed the obstacle, and everything was back to normal!
I am currently using a heated water base also. It works fine but puts lots of humidity into the air. I am going to order some nipple-style drinkers and use a bucket with an aquarium heater. I think it will make a big difference in the humidity and therefore comfort of my birds.

Has anyone else seen their hens do this type of behavior?
I stopped at the coop before getting in the car to drive to work. Not until I was at work and put my hand in my pocket to find my keys covered in gooey egg did I remember even putting it in my pocket!
The ladies at work all thought it was pretty funny.

I am wintering (I guess they call it spring technically now...) my first ever batch of chickens. They are now a year old. My flock consists of 19 chickens (17 hens and 2 roosters) and 3 guineas.
My flock is an interesting mix of...
