@SandyRiverChick I think I may have determined what the issue is. The last pullet is still showing major signs of weakness/paralysis, and after doing some further research I think I determined that this is most likely a case of Avian Encephalomyelitis. After reading about its symptoms and...
Hi! Thanks so much for the updates on your hen. So sorry for your loss, but it also sounds like it you are not to blame so don’t be too hard on yourself (although I know it’s hard not to trust me). That’s great you were able to determine the exact cause as well as figure out the situation with...
@SandyRiverChick Can’t thank you enough for the continued responses and support. Also thank you @azygous @rosemarythyme @coach723 for the additional information and advice. I’m going to get on top of treatment immediately and hoping for the best. She has already been showing better signs but...
Thank you very much, it was incredibly hard. I’m honestly not too sure, it definitely could be considering she has been improving, however i’m still a little skeptical as the first chick who got sick and recovered was never treated with Corid. Speaking of, she has actually been thriving with the...
it’s around 75-80 degrees. I woke up this morning and both were still alive. One was actually doing much better than the other. She was able to drink and eat and is continuing to rest. However, the other would barely drink and wouldn’t eat anything. She would persistently squawk while continuing...
When they were healthy, somewhat. I live in northern California so it gets pretty’s hot here at times, but they always had access to shade + cold, fresh water. Since then I’ve had them in a controlled environment back in their brooder box inside. Unfortunately, I think you may be right. Unlike...
update: about 3-4 hours since oral drench. The girls aren’t doing too well. Very little activity from both. They also look identical right now in their resting position; not sure if it’ll give any hints as to what they’re dealing with. They’re both still breathing, but barely. Not sure if...
Up until now when I noticed when they were sick, I just hand-fed hard boiled egg yolk since it worked for me the first time in reviving my first sick chick. However, now that they are taking Corid and since you told me, I am stopping that and will only feed them their medicated crumble feed. I’m...
Hey! Quick update; I gave both sick chicks an oral drench for today and added diluted water to their and all the other chickens water. One of the sick chicks is much worse off than the other. After giving the oral drench, one of them was quick to drink more of the diluted water and ate a little...
Okay thank you so much! I’m going to get on this immediately. Update: just bought the Corid and am about to start the treatment. Thanks again. Will update soon.
I wasn’t sure if it was or not, I really don’t think it could be as i’ve been feeding them medicated crumble feed since I got them. Once they showed signs of illness I feed them hard boiled egg yolk. Is there any negative side effects if I give them Corid and it ends up lot being Coccidosis.
I have 13 chickens. 5 hens, 4 8-week olds and 4 6-week olds. My problem started with one of the youngest ones. She randomly became extremely sick overnight; totally lethargic, wouldn’t eat or drink on her own, and had wet, runny, green/white poop. I immediately isolated her and began nursing her...
Sorry to hear about your sick chick and sorry not many others have comments for assistance. I am in a similar situation. I have a smaller flock of 4, and one ended up getting really sick with similar symptoms. Overnight and all of a sudden she became extremely lethargic and wouldn’t move, eat or...
