    DIY Chicken Feed

That is exactly what I was going to recommend. Some cheap grains/seeds to offset the cost of the feed. And it keeps them active! nice job

Why are my baby chicks dying?

Meat bird or game bird starter crumble. High Protein. We feed 24/7 but elevate the food so they have to stand and eat. Also move their pen every few days or clean it daily. all that food going in comes out pretty quick and it stinks.

What do you do if a chicken dies?

If it is a close to a trash day, bag it up and throw it in the can. Or You can still bury in a small yard.

pointers/predator safe things we missed on new coop?!

SoCal wont get a whole lot of rain so leaking wont be too bad. You can laya rubber strip over top of the hinge point it will help soe of the rain from leaking in the crack. Seal it on the flat side, let it lay over the sloped side. There is a gap in your roofing though. Racoon will crawl right...

Aggressive rooster attacked my sister! What should I do?

To be clear, I was referring to an aggressive rooster, not a bad one. If it attacks chicks and nesting hens and stuff, then its just bad and has to go. (I did not realize there was 8 pages of this thread. Jeesh. I am sure what I said has already been said)

Aggressive rooster attacked my sister! What should I do?

For a backyard chicken, small flock, in a suburban area. I agree with most of the posts above. For larger flocks, I would train it. A chicken willing to attack a person it thinks is a threat, is also going to attack predators. It might not win, but should create enough a ruckus to get you out...

Need Winter quarters for a Muscovy Flock

Some are in trees or on roofs. Some are on the ground in the run, a few are in a building. No coherency with these "not a ducks". (just finished "the good place" ;)) For comparison all of our ducks are together on the ground in a run. don't even have to call them in, they put themselves away...

    Tame Turkeys

I have only had two, both female. Both very chatty, but I used to bark at them. (Turkey bark not dog bark). Wife got annoyed because a couple of our other poultry picked it up as well. Ended up having to carry one to bed every night. Such a diva. No fuss or fighting, I started clapping and...

    Mad props to my wife

I read and watched a bunch. So many channels on youtube about first timers acting like this is what you should do... So we had two white broad breasted that were hand raised with some guineas and a few chickens. There whole life one was male one was female. I could never tell. No spur, no...

    Predator proofing open air coop

Where the corrugated roofing was sold they sell blocks that fit in there, you are supposed to install them before nailing down the panels. might have something you can use after ward. Chicken wire will work post fact.

If you kept only one breed...

No. They have this wierd like round head/neck thing. Like they are all wearing turtle necks. Smoking a pipe and listening to Jazz music. Here is a screencap of our number 2 "Eaglet" and another one surrounded by our Asian Blacks.

What shape of roosts do you use in your chicken coop?

After lots of reading, in midatlantic region, can get cold here we went with 2x4s large flat side up. The 2x3 at the big box stores were too splintery. and the larger size of the 2x4s will also work with our couple of turkeys.

If you kept only one breed...

No EE/Amera-Aracauna for me. That neck is so weird... (We have them, I am just referring to, if there can be only one...) Probably Rhode Island Reds. First Brown egg for me, and I started my flock after that. Pretty hardy and self sufficient. Our Buff Orps a close, very close second...

    Growing your own feed

I am in the pine barrens of new jersey , temperate zone, with sandy loam soil . Not sure what zone number... Lots of pine trees, actually have quite a bit of cedar, and this area is known for its "cedar water" My wife tried growing a couple of fruit trees out on the edge of our property, so it...
