She had full crop a couple of weeks ago just for one morning. I check them all as they come out of the coop. Resolved quickly but maybe related?

    Gizzard woms?

No not crop. Gizzard. Can feel it on underside it contracts hard but normally can only just find it. This seems a little distended maybe. Intestinal shedding I thought possible but why? It's a lot... crop def OK.

    Gizzard woms?

Thank you!! No others seem affected all nice firm poos. I'll redose them all just now then. They like it mixed with porridge oats... roundworms I think are more solid than these. Really floppy no structure to discern. I think no could make out a mouth under microscope. Not much info on gizzard...

    Gizzard woms?

3 year old hen, recently moulted, not laying, seemed sad and had distended abdomen. I drained her of about 300ml of fluid 5 days ago (yellow, slightly cloudy, no smell) . I wormed flock with fenbendazole 10 days ago. Would this be dead gizzard worms emerging? I have seen 3 or 4 poos like this...

    Canker metronidazole/ronidazole?

Yes! They always have layers' pellets adlib but she was not eating them and I needed to keep her calories up somehow! She is back on the chicken feed now for the rest of the day and has a full crop at bedtime (4pm these days...) so def getting everything she needs.

    Canker metronidazole/ronidazole?

Hi all, I wanted to update this thread in case people are searching for help. It's a good news story! So Marilyn started to get worse and eventually she had not eaten for a couple of days. I had tried to give her the Metronidazole in food but it tastes so bad she would not eat it. I cut 250mg...

Impacted crop on a severely underweight hen - how to treat?

That's what I've used. Check units for cellulase in particular - the more the better.

Impacted crop on a severely underweight hen - how to treat?

You could try including some digestive enzymes in her food. Make sure they contain cellulase as any blockage is likely to be plant-based. Mix capsule contents with whatever she will eat - yoghurt or papaya fine. Might help with her crop issues?

What would kill but not eat my rooster

Oh no! Your fabulous brave boy! My friend's chicken was just killed probably by a cat (people should keep them under control...). Can't tell where you are and that would make a big difference what it might be. Massive condolences - I lost a hen to a fox over a year ago and still sad when I...

    Canker metronidazole/ronidazole?

Ooo, nice pic! I shall not massage it then. Thank you. Pomegranate was a false dawn (predictably) and she is still gurgling/shaking yet seems so healthy. Laid a somewhat chalky, thin-shelled egg today. Is very fond of black sunflower seed as well as the pomegranate. Marilyn is my top chicken...

    Canker metronidazole/ronidazole?

One more question: I have had a good feel of her neck (was trying to get her beak open to (A) look down her throat and (B) attempt to put a tablet down her throat). I could feel a small lump at the top of her neck, directly behind wattles where I guess trachea would be heading away from back of...

    Canker metronidazole/ronidazole?

She's a dainty Black Rock, only just over a kilo unlike her coop-mate Manson who is massive more like 2.5 kg. I got hold of her today to see if she has lost weight and she still feels normal weight. She's still energetic and stubborn - refused to go back into their run when I needed to go to...

    Canker metronidazole/ronidazole?

Thank you all so much for all your helpful advice and suggestions. Many apologies for not responding sooner: guests in the house meant I couldn't get online. Gah! The vet's suggested dose was about what you said casportpony; 50 mg/kg. There is definitely no bloody mucus; no mucus at all. I...

    Canker metronidazole/ronidazole?

You're right - I should've asked for the microscopy to be done. I was just so relieved to get a confirmation that it was something 'treatable' and she seemed very confident... I had read about the smelliness and had a good sniff a few times but she didn't smell of anything. My sense of smell is...
