    Sick Chicken

One of my RIRs is not doing good. started not eating a while back, has not started laying eggs yet this year as all others have, and about 2 weeks ago picked her up and the breast meat was very non-existent. Breast bone was protruding. Put her in a hospital container, and she would not eat...

    keet - slipped tendon

Thank you for answering. I feel that I will have to cull him. He is much smaller than the other keets the same age. I just wanted to try anything I could.

    keet - slipped tendon

We have a keet that has a slipped tendon. We did not realize that was the problem at first. We thought he had spraddle leg because he was doing the splits. So the legs were taped with no improvement. So I kept researching and it appears to be a slipped tendon with both legs and it has been a...

    Advice on egg laying

I have 3 rhode island reds that I got in Feb 2012. I was told by the farmer that they had just started laying. They laid great last year, we normally had 2-3 eggs a day. They of course slowed down in the winter and fall and never picked back up. It is normally 1 egg a day. If they had...

    Hatching guineas

We actually started them 4 weeks ago last Saturday but the temp was only 99.5. Didn't realize that the still air was supposed a higher temp. The directions didn't say that. Realized the following Monday and got it to 102 degrees. So it is 4 weeks today at 102 degrees. I did bump up the temp...

    Hatching guineas

Thanks. I opened the vents. We had it about 102 for the incubation period and the humidity was about 40-45%. The keet is still in the incubator but keeps moving around. The one hatched about 12 hours ago. I would have thought that more than one would have hatched by now out of the 12 eggs.

    Hatching guineas

We had a keet hatch last night. I just wanted to double check what we are doing b/c only one has hatched. We have a still air incubator and the temperature at the top of the eggs is 98 degrees and the humidity is a little over 80%. The vents are closed right now. Is all this okay? This is...

    Guinea hens not moving

They didn't have access to egg shells or yogurt until after they got ill. Thanks for the info. I will try Tractor Supply. They are alert and don't seem in distress. I will get some oyster shell. Do they normally eat that no problem?

    Guinea hens not moving

Thanks for replying. I guess we messed up. We didn't have oyster shell since we have always used a complete feed. However, they have not been eating any feed since they free range. I had thought it might we calcium and was giving them some egg with the shells and some yogurt mixed in. They...

    Guinea hens not moving

Four days ago I let the flock out for the day and noticed one hen limping. The 3 males and other hen seemed fine. After I caught her I put her back in coop (chicken wired horse stall). The rest of the day she just sits on the floor and won't move unless you are trying to pick her up. Her...
