    Will not Roost

These little ladies, 4 weeks old, just will not roost at night. I have a perch in their box, about 3 inches high. They stand on it during the day. When I turn out the lights, boom, they pile up. If I sneek in and move them, they all wake up and go nuts, then huddle up again. Should I care about...

    Help! Suddenly Not Looking Good

She is the one not feeling well. She had a little build up on her butt this morning, and I cleaned her up gently because I could see she was not feeling well. I dried her off before putting her back but she is a little ruffled. Her vent was not blocked, but she had some build up on her. Several...

    Help! Suddenly Not Looking Good

One of my week old chicks is suddenly lethargic, wobbly-legged, and her wings are not as folded up as they were even yesterday. She was fine yesterday, one of the more active chicks, running and flapping. This morning, she is just standing under the brooder (98 degrees) wobbling, wings a little...

    Babies Arrived Today!

We got baby hens from McMurry hatchery today. They are all very active and their Rubbermaid tote is toasty warm. One slight problem....when you order chicks from them then send you a free random chick, which you can opt out of. We opted out becasue it is completely random and we really do not...

    Adding hens to my flock

Thanks for everyone's responses. I posted a few pictures of my coop, will add some of the run. They sleep perched on the very edge of the "attic space". In looking at other coops, it looks like I should add some roosting space. Remember, this coop was inherited, and I am a COMPLETE newbie!

    Adding hens to my flock

I have ordered 6 chicks to add to my flock. Well, to add to my existing pair of hens. Some background - I inherited a pair of Plymouth Rock hens, a coop and run from a friend who moved. They are 2 years old. The coop is 4'x8', and tall enough to stand up straight in. Inside, there is a raised...

My transplanted coop! This mobile home foundation wall existed next to my home. It measures 22' x 50' or so. We fenced in the back 12 feet, so the run area is 22' x 12'. The coop itself is the 4' x 8' building. Three quarters of the run has a plywood and tin roof. There are 2 hens sharing the space.

    Hello from Nevada

Hello everyone! I enjoy this website. It has so much useful information and it is so supportive. I live in Nevada, in a very chicken friendly town. I am inheriting a coop and run from some friends who are moving. We are disassembling the whole thing and moving it to my house. Their 2 Holland...
