Just search on YouTube for Whizzbang plucker and watch some of the videos. I haven't used one personally (yet) but from everything I've read and seen I would have to say they do not damage the carcass in any way. I just bought the book and will start gathering suppliues to make one soon.
Awesome! I'm getting ready to harvest mine soon. I did the same as you - left it alone last year but this year I can't wait! Are you using a Lang? How do you get the bees out of the honey super(s)? I've seen these fume pads but I don't really like that idea.
Thanks Seth and Lacy! One thing I like about this show is that the dates are better than they usually are. The last few shows have been late fall/early winter and I have been kept away by weather. I don't really like driving through Washoe Valley or over Geiger Grade in snowstorms!
Thanks Dee and Elizabeth! I try to keep an optimistic attitude about such things. As one of my friends always says "I was looking for a job when I found this one!"
In the book I linked to on the previous page it talks about things you can do to mitigate the impact on neighbors whatever your space challenges. Mostly it has to do with siting the hive entrance strategically so that their flight path in and out doesn't interfere with human space.
Thanks Hangtown! Too bad I didn't know - you could have stopped by for a visit. I'm about a mile south of Hwy 50 right as you enter Dayton from Stagecoach if you are heading west.
Thanks Kim!
I love a good storm - but that sounds pretty extreme! Still, I would have loved to have seen it.
I have a Ft. Knox for chickens Peep - have you ever seen the pictures of it? They are in my profile. Basically, I have to keep out everything on, above, and below ground. I have seen coyotes...
I like this book, and I've also heard a lot of other people recommend it - The Backyard Beekeeper - subtitled "An Absolute Beginner's Guide to Keeping Bees in Your Yard and Garden". It has been tremendously helpful to me.
Wow, that would be cool! My only problem is the time required to do it. But hey, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time... Let me work on it some. How long are the blog posts supposed to be?
ROTFLMAO - "dirt bag roosters"!!!
I don't know what's up but I haven't received a...
No, but we have our own big fire up here. the Bison fire. It is in the Pine Nut mountains just east of Minden and Gardnerville. The smoke was so thick today that I could no longer see the sun, and it was affecting channels on my satellite dish. LAst I heard it was 7,000 acres but that was last...
There were several people from out that way on here, but I haven't seen any of them post in a while. SunnyDawn, who started this thread, maintains a list of everyone and where they are from. Look on the very first page and you'll see a link to that list.
