Wah, I’m going to cry writing this post. It’s with a heavy heavy heart, I gotta let my feather babies go. I need to rehome 13 chicks (3.5 months old) and 4 ducks (3.5 months old).
Moral of this post, you really gotta be careful who you trust.
2 Rouen ducks
2 khaki Campbell ducks
1 Rhode...
Ooh thank you for that link! I’ll check it out. She’s okay… better than when it first happened. However, she is still limping, but a stronger limp and she can actually put some weight on her leg. It seems as though that foot is smaller than her other one and it also seems that where her top leg...
Hey everyone, I know someone’s probably posted something like this before. My khaki Campbell is not bearing weight on leg/foot. I hadn’t noticed anything before today, but I also didn’t really pay attention. Or at least nothing stood out. This morning my family and I were opening their coop to...
Just realized my chick was bleeding a little bit. Not sure when or how. Thought if putting neosporin on it but not sure if I can since they are not human after all.
Can someone maybe give me some ideas or some guidance from experience.
Hi, yes chicks and ducks are on same diet now. IF separated the chicks get their starter feed, but since they are mostly together they share the same crumble. But we have 13 chicks and 4 ducks.
Yes the sand would only be for a dust bath. Do they need these?
I’ll post a picture tomorrow- today...
Hi everyone, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
New to this. But our chicks are ready to go outside, feathered and jumping on furniture from their brooder. We have a coop for them but it doesn’t have a foundation so they are on dirt/sand, not too much of soft sand. And right now they...
So even okay if ducks still only have fluff? I have 3 almost 4 week old mallards and they barely sprouted their first ‘shoulder feathers’ the other night and have the starts of tail feathers. So they are still fluff mostly.
I would definitely read up above, I am not sure what day temps are in your area. The above comments have been helpful. In another one of my posts people were saying 40's+ at night and so far I see 70's+ for young ducklings/chicks. Have your ducks gotten feathers yet? Mine sprouted their first...
Sounds good! I have had it off all day today and all day yesterday but did keep it on all night for them.
What about when they move to the outdoors- in a sheltered coop- will I need a heat source for them then? What nighttime temps are okay for them?
Well we are going to be reaching high 70’s low 80’s this weekend and next week. During the nights it’s getting down to about low 30’s.
The winds have just been high the last few days.
Hi there, I kind of looked up this topic but didn't find the most accurate information I was looking for. I have a few questions.
I have 4 week and 3 week old chicks, they are all mostly feathered out by this time, can I take away the heat lamp? They are inside my home in the corner of my...
Okay sounds good... thank you! I have been itching to put them outside and see how they do at least for the day time, but its been horribly windy here and we have a lot of sand/dust in our yard and behind our home. I worry about the goat heads but there is nothing we can do about them really.
Oh dang, I have mine swimming in the bathtub... have gradually increased their water height. They seem to do just fine, I leave them in there while I clean our their brooder daily. It is not freezing outside but they still have their fluff and it has been unbearably windy so we have not put them...
