Tried to settle in super early to be ready for early morning chick pickup. Comfortable, in my PJs, relaxed… CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP from the garage. Throw off the blankets and make a mad dash to see what on earth happened.
Open the door - nothing but calm chirps. Confused, but go back to bed...
We also have found a local food pantry that takes egg donations so we plan to be sure they always have fresh eggs! and if we sell some eggs each week, will be putting the proceeds back to chicken feed, enrichment, etc. 💙 (or more future chicken math 😂) And our families sure will be set for life...
Hahaha, it helps we are young but financially very stable financially and have 29 acres to build more on! 😂🤭 It’s definitely ambitious for my first time owning as the primary caretaker, but my son and hubby also help out. Hubby grew up with chickens and Guineas! Though he did say: never Guineas. 😂
Oh weird! Mine said it was in transit to the hub as of last night and arrived at 5:30 pm after being dropped off at 4:30. But all I can do is wait and see, so wait and see I shall! 😂
Hmm. My order from Ideal set to hatch/ship today apparently shipped last night at 4:30 pm? And says it won’t arrive until Saturday. I’ve learned to not trust arrival dates but hmmm. Anxious!
As an update for any who may be looking, I’m getting another 10 mysteries of the rare breed special on the 4th (still getting the 25th order 😂) to go with my silkies. Had to make sure the box was plenty warm in May… yepp. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
The little “mystery marans” was a...
Hello all! My son's dream is a frizzle Polish so I've been doing some research. We are not yet equipped to hatch eggs and I do not want to throw us into grabbing just any incubator and buying eggs without properly researching (I research a LOT before diving into something) both how to properly...
That’s great to know, thank you! I’ve written it down in my future note homesteading notebook. 💙 I definitely do not plan to show, but want all of our feathery babies to be as healthy and happy as possible. I’ll be looking into that layer feed early on so I can have it at the ready when they’re...
Thanks so much! I’m really excited. Silkies were one of those critters that I felt “this is strange - I need five” about growing up. 😂 Hubby saying he wanted them was enough of a green light for me. 5 will be from Ideal and 5 from Cackle, all random colors. Excited to see what babies we get...
This looks like the thread for me. 🤭 My husband and I are new to chicken tending (we got our first 19 at the beginning of April - and now have about 60-65 other standard chicks! Whoops!) and two days ago, hubby saw the Bantams at TSC and leaped (we got 12!). He expressed he was disappointed...
"Good news!
A product you were interested in is available for pre-order at Cackle Hatchery. You can now order the Silkie Bantam Special for an upcoming hatch."
Cruel, foul (fowl?) temptation.
Anyways, it's a good thing we've got big brooders and plenty of space. 🤭 (Hubby is all for it again. I...
