    Goose eggs

I have five geese in a big pen with a guard dog. It works well because the dog keeps coons from getting the geese and he loves his geese. Trouble is, he also loves their eggs. He stands over them as they lay and when they leave, he eats them shell and all. I would like to figure a way to make a...

    Caponize Silkies?

I think you waited to long to do it. We did it when they were around one pound max. Haven’t tried a silkie as it is so hard to tell if they are male or female till they are so old. Mine were around two months old when we did them

Capon vs. Roo... Side by side comparison

this is a Jersey giant capon. He was born in June 2020. He was caponized in August at about 1 pound. I currently have a different capon broody on some turkey and peacock eggs. His comb grew in as regular. This boys comb just never developed.

    Caponizing your rooster?

I know this is an old post but I am going to answer it anyway. I caponized 14 Roos last fall and lost one. Some of them have combs and some don’t. One crows and he also mounts hens so I assume some testicle Was left All have the beautiful tail feathers. One of the Roos is broody right now and...

    Caponizing your rooster?

This is a very old post but I am going to reply. I caponized 14 Roos last fall and lost one. Some didn’t grow their combs and some did. One still crows and I am assuming we missed a part of one testical. They all have their beautiful feathers and one is broody right now. He is sitting on turkey...

    Calling all experienced caponizers!

I was so scared to do it yesterday as we had only watched videos also. It is really pretty straight forward. We did six birds and have six alive and well today. We did run into one problem and I am not going to go into it on here because people will FLIP out! But I encourage anyone who wants to...

    Calling all experienced caponizers!

I think you would be hard pressed to find any farmer or rancher who uses any type of anesthesia of any sort of livestock when they castrate. Baby calves get caught, tossed onto their side and the cuts are made and it is done. Same with baby pigs. Heck, there are still sheep farmers who just pick...

    Calling all experienced caponizers!

I thought it was excessive too. But we waited for a day that was supposed to have a couple of cool days. We put them in a place that was cool early in the morning and did the procedure early the next morning. They all did fine.

    Calling all experienced caponizers!

Reading the posts here was why I was hesitant to even post that we were going to do it yesterday. We did however do six birds. All six are alive and kickin’. I will admit I was very hesitant to be there because I can’t stand to see anything suffer. I was amazed that they didn’t seem bothered by...

    Calling all experienced caponizers!

We are going to put birds up for 24 hours tomorrow with no food or water and plan on caponizing Saturday. 24 hours just seems like way to long for them to be without water. Is that what everyone does?

Help, One year old male peacock with huge lump on his eye

I think I could cut it opens and really clean it out myself but I don’t think something this major should be done with nothing for pain. I know they say birds don’t feel pain the same but that would be torture I would think.

Help, One year old male peacock with huge lump on his eye

He also cut along the bottom of the lump to see if there was anything in it. He did look for hard chunks and so I assume he knows what it was.

Help, One year old male peacock with huge lump on his eye

my year old peacock has a huge lump on his eye. My peas are not very tame and it was beyond squeezing by the time I saw it. I have treated with several different antibiotics in the past months. Nothing helped. I took him to the vet about a month ago and he stuck a needle in and there was no pus...

    Relapsing wry neck

I found my silkie with her head down and she has seizure type shaking. Then she runs circles backwards with her head between her legs. I gave her a drench of poly I sol, vitamin e oil, selenium, electrolytes and oregano oil. No better today. Just stands with her head all the was back between her...

    Question about tail feathers.

Thank so much. I live in Missouri. They don't get heat lamps but they do ..... did ...have a light on all night , for the chickens. My pied lost all his tail feathers and the other two boys are now in the process of loosing theirs. I turned off the lights when I realized what was happening but...
