I think you waited to long to do it. We did it when they were around one pound max. Haven’t tried a silkie as it is so hard to tell if they are male or female till they are so old. Mine were around two months old when we did them

this is a Jersey giant capon. He was born in June 2020. He was caponized in August at about 1 pound. I currently have a different capon broody on some turkey and peacock eggs. His comb grew in as regular. This boys comb just never developed.

We are going to put birds up for 24 hours tomorrow with no food or water and plan on caponizing Saturday. 24 hours just seems like way to long for them to be without water. Is that what everyone does?

I think I could cut it opens and really clean it out myself but I don’t think something this major should be done with nothing for pain. I know they say birds don’t feel pain the same but that would be torture I would think.
