The 6 month old's are white leghorns and 2 barnyard mixes, and a sex link. They come and go as they please.
The rest are a year and a half up. 2 are buff orpington, 1 is a dominique, and the others are barn yard mixes. Some of them get out and free range some stay put.
I'm feeding Purina Layena...
I have 4 khaki campbell ducks and 8 various breed hens. All stopped laying in August. They all appeared to have gone through molt at the same time. They are now pretty as can be but have not offered a single egg!
I also have 12 chickens and 2 more ducks that are nearly 6 months old but aren't...
I'm curious. Did your chickens ever start laying? Mine stopped in August as well. All my chickens plus my khaki campbell ducks. All stopped laying. It appears they all went into molt at the same time. But I haven't gotten an egg since August. :(
I don't know of a predator issue. I've had 2 hens disappear. One randomly disappears and shows back up a month or so later. Could the temperature change cause it? It was about the time we started getting into the 90's that they started molting again. We also added a couple of ducklings to the...
I have 2 Buff Orpington and LOVE them. They are my favorite. They will come over and talk to you and they MUST inspect anything they see you carrying. Super friendly! One of mine went broody this year (her first year) and did a fantastic job hatching and mothering. The other is "special" and...
I went by TSC this weekend to pick up a few chicks for my Buff Orpington to surrogate (since her hatching skills are quite lacking.) They had all the chicks and ducklings on clearance! Oh my word.. my 3-4 chicks turned into 12 chicks and 2 lil ducklings!! I already have 4 Khaki Campbells and I...
Does anyone know the breeds of these chickens I picked up the other day?
Pic #1- The rooster.
Pic #2- Older hen that's been laying a while.
Pic #3- These girls have been laying for about a month so I'm guessing they are less than a year old. Wasn't able to get a good pick of the one up on...
I have 6 hens that have been laying for about a month. I started saving their eggs for a teacher to hatch in her classroom. Does it matter how long a hen has been laying when it comes to incubating? Should we find fertile eggs from someone who's hens have been laying longer?
Just an update. All 4 are girls. They each lay me an egg everyday now! :) They still act up a little when I clean out their kiddie pool. Guess they're just playing. :)
I have 2 buff orps and 3 barred rock that were all hatched around April 11th. I just got my first egg 3 days ago!! I was about to give up! LOL I don't know which one is laying, but I got a perfect little brown egg 3 days in a row out of the same nest box. I guess she took today off. :/ I was...
Well my son and I tried to catch them and they all protested with a loud "MACK MACK MACK!!" So they all look the same and sound the same. I also realized a little while ago that I had another video of the "hop on top" game. After close review it's a different duck doing the mounting! So maybe...
