Great! Thanks for the help! I'll clean it & put some Neosporin on it.

Black around eye...what is it? (Pics)

Is Neosporin OK to use by the eye? Or is there something else I should get? It seems to just be I the eyelid. I'll have to run back out & feel it

Black around eye...what is it? (Pics)

Thanks for your help. Still not quite sure what it is, but leaning towards maybe Dry Fowl Pox? Someone on FB thought maybe eye worms, but her eye isn't swollen...I don't know. Here's a picture from this morning. Doesn't seem as black.

Black around eye...what is it? (Pics)

I'm really not sure. I'm in Oregon where we've been unseasonably warm this winter. It's only getting down to the low40's/mid30's at night. I'm a first time chicken keeper. They'll be 1 on May 12th. They haven't stopped laying (actually got 11 eggs from 11 chickens today). Really not sure what's...

Black around eye...what is it? (Pics)

Tried looking this up & couldn't find anything... Can anyone tell me what's going on with my Buff Orpington, Twitch? She had a little black on the bottom of her eye yesterday & today it is all over the outside of her eye & some black in her comb. Is it frostbite? Pecking? Scratching? Something...

    Bald bottoms...more than one chicken

I had them in lockdown for a bit because of the Avian Flu (we are a few miles from a wetland preserve), but decided to let them out some. We do supervised free range because of predators (hawks, etc). They did not like being stuck in their coop/ run. I was thinking maybe boredom. I'll try the...

    Bald bottoms...more than one chicken

My biggest Australorp started losing feathers on her bottom last month. Yesterday, I noticed that my other Australorp, 3 of my BR, 1 of my GLW & 1 of my BO all have feather loss on their bottom/tummy under their vent. I have witnessed all the birds pecking each other's feathers before...there...

Need help...chicken with open sore on back

Thanks so much! We don't have a rooster, so I think it's just pecking. After further examination, noticed that she is without a lot of feathers around her bottom. She must really be getting picked on. While I'm out with them (before the avian flu lockdown), I wasn't noticing her getting pecked...

Need help...chicken with open sore on back

Went to lock my chickens in tonight & was checking them over. Noticed one of my black Australorps had a red bloody spot on her back. It's on her left side. Have her in a dog kennel with straw & water trying to figure out what to do. Should I wash it with soap & water? Should I use hydrogen...

How to make exterior nesting box doors weather resistant?

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make my external nesting boxes doors weather resistant. I want the doors opening on the side (not the top if the box) and also want them opening down or out like a cabinet, not up. There really isn't a big overhang to help keep water out. The roof of...

    Help! New here...coccidiosis??

Thank you both for your help! Really appreciate it! She is the only one that isn't growing & seems smaller & weaker. She even fell over when she was walking the other night. She was eating & drinking, so I ended up giving her some yogurt & started putting ACV in their water. Tonight, she came...

    Help! New here...coccidiosis??

My chicks are 3wks 1day old & I have a BO that had been quiet for a few days. Realized it's a lot smaller than the others, super light, feels like her breastbone is poking out more than the others, just wants to lay around, will eat & drink, just noticed white tipped poop from her tonight. I'm...
