I lost one of my Orloff Roo's a little while back, but my flock is very inquisitive and (once I snatch one up) they like to be held. I've found that the longer I've had Orloff's the more enamored with them I become, each bird has such personality, and they are so regal/fierce looking. Slow to...
Yeah, I agree, the forum is MUCH easier to navigate than the facebook page. But I do like to share pictures on the facebook group. I'll be posting pics of my feeder/waterer I just made on there soon (assuming they actually work)
Well, the first plans are we are going to make a green house from old windows we got from some family. And I also have a few different gardens I'm planning to start this spring.
As far as animals go, we are thinking of getting a couple goats to start with to help us clear some of our wooded...
I understand completely. And honestly, the Orloff needs whatever help it can get, so if you decide to breed for personality first, who knows, maybe someone will have a line that looks great but doesn't act so great, and will want one of yours to bring that personality back. I say go for it, just...
My Orloff's are only about 5 months old, but they're all very friendly, and none of them seem to care so much about what the weather is, as long as there's something for them to scratch at.
They are all quite watchful of the sky and their surroundings, and I haven't had them since they were...
Here are a few pictures I took today when I went out to feed/water the flock.
They move around so much that I had to scrap 70% of the pictures I took, but I like the ones I got.
Like I said before, they're around 4.5-5.5 months old.
@TaylorHobbyFarms Thanks! I appreciate the comment, and I agree with you, keeping up with this is a commitment, but it's pretty fun too! I'll be on the lookout for if you do decide to do that "how fast they grow" series. I've been trying to keep track of how my Orloffs mature because there is...
@ashandvine I have 6 Orloffs that I got from a guy in Muskegon, Michigan a couple months back. They're about 5 months old now. I think I have 2 cockerels and 4 pullets. They're an absolute joy to have, their personalities and general inquisitiveness are immensely fun.
I've been posting...
I make sure to check BYC daily, but both the forum and the facebook page have their pros and cons. I'll try to stay active here, hope to post an updated image of my flock soon. No eggs yet, but I think I still have at least a month before I really should be expecting any from them.
@scratch'n'peck yeah the Orloff people I've been in touch with said that I shouldn't be tooo terribly worried about the lack of beard and muff at the age they are for now, but to keep an eye on it. Hoping that some of them develop a bit more as they mature.
Hello all! it's been a while, so I figured I'd update my post. Snow has fallen, winds have blown, and my 8 chickens have been doing a good job of dealing with it all in their own way. Which is, make all sorts of noise when they hear the door open so that I know they're still there and that they...
I have 8 birds, 7 hens, one roo. And only three of them are named so far.
The roo is named Boris, because my Mother-in-Law thought a Russian Orloff would need a Russian name. So he's Boris.
Two of the other Orloffs have names because they have some personality.
This girl is named Tuesday...
Today I let the girls out for a little bit after I threw some kitchen scraps into the compost.
It was all beaks-on-deck and they made sure to gobble up the good stuff.
None of them seem too bothered by the snow/slush on the ground, then again, they seem to think with their stomachs a...
