Thanks for all the great advice on here. Just wanted to share a picture of our Ben now he is almost 7 months old. We tried to take him back but were refused. Ah well, he is a very pretty bird and a good guardian for our ladies...
They have done some growing! Here are a few updates :) No doubts now about our Ben being a rooster!!

My chicken's names are:
Alys Fowler (british tv gardener - keeps hens)
Layla
Ophelia (as in "oeuf")
Beatrice
Perdita
Benedict - my little roo
Incidentally, my two dark hybrid hens are variously named 'black rocks" or "bovans nera". They are a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Barred...
Thanks EweSheep - yeah we had our suspicions about the rooster. He will be well loved, but I have a lot of learning to do!!
I came to the same conclusion about the Duckwing, but also thought that it had the look of a Dorking. She is kind of funny looking, but a charming little critter...
Haha draye - I am terrible at spelling - creativity is important and as long as the meaning isn't lost I say go with it!!
Thanks for the warm welcome :) I am going to be happy with whatever birds I end up with (even if it does look a little odd). I may have a Welsummer cockerel judging by some...
Thanks Peeka52 - the reason the guy thought it was a Welsummer Cross was because it came with other Welsummers. I have another picture of its other side here:

Hi guys, I am new to this forum and pretty new to keeping chickens. My other half brought me home three birds today and I was a bit surprised by them. I really could do with some expert opinions.
Is this a Welsummer cross...
Hi guys - having a panic. The other half came home with this today - 7 wk old. I think this is a cockrel, what do you all think? I'm thinking of sending him back to the shop with it as I wasn't with him when he bought it. Worried that the shop keeper was trying to pull a fast one.
