I would say off hand that one of the parents isn't as purebred to specific species as you were led to believe. That unfortunately happens a lot, if you originally got the parents or grandparents from a hatchery.
There's also the visiting roo possibility to consider.
chicken genetics are fun...
Time for a trail cam that looks directly where you see the eggs appear, so to minimize activation with just any passing chicken.
you might be getting a wild duck, or more likely a Canadian goose, that likes the look of your run to raise her own babies.
My take from all this is that our fuzz butt girls do a whole lot of work for us. I'm going to go give them some thank you meal worms now just to appreciate them. My tiny white leghorn lays 74 gram xl eggs, and I can't figure out how she has room in that tiny body for anything else. The egg...
Also they tend to be healthier and live longer better lives if they start laying when their bodies are more mature and better capable. So your giving them a great start. No worries 🤗
This egg was laid by my friend's chicken Dottie.
Dottie's mother ,O.J., is a sex link, my friend thinks RIR and Sussex?? And Dottie's Father is named TRex, for good reason, he's a 12lb Jersey giant/ Easter Egger cross. O.J. lays 96 gram eggs.
This egg is 105 grams (3.7 oz) WOW.
She lays these...
So I'm of the mind that Annie is the only goose in with the chickens, so that works. I think I may be having issues because I have 5 together with the chicken flock, so they think they are their own flock. I built then their own shed, mostly to keep their food dry because they don't use it for...
I got 5 geese as babies, and one of my broody chicken hens raised them from day old. So mine grew up in the field and chicken house they are in now, and they sleep in the chicken house with 20 chickens, on the floor. Sometimes they bully the smaller hens, but if they do, my big BCM roo, puts...
One word..... Crows....
They are super territorial, and don't tolerate flying predators in their home territory. I feed them on a raised platform, suet, meat, chicken feed, etc.. and always keep water for them and other birds. They have a nest on my property, and they actively chase all flying...
Thinking about it, I can't see anything in pizza ingredients that individually, a chicken shouldn't eat, and it only has a lot of salt if the meat on it is heavily salty like pepperoni, but I'm also not sure if cheese is ok, I'd have to consult the oracle of google on that, (no, I've never fed...
Well, "they" sell heat platforms designed for chicks that advertises for +60- chicks, so I don't know why a heating pad that size wouldn't work, I'd just be sure they have an exit out the back so no one gets stuck in the corner.
Do you have a rooster? My Rooster took on a hawk and kicked his butt. Feathers flying everywhere. Baba rooster last a toenail, but came out on top, and the hawk never came back. I also befriended a murder of crows.😁 I just love saying that. They live in the big madrona right by the co-op, and...
I really love your set up. I almost always use a live broody hen, but I want one of these hanging around for the "just in case" situation that always happens eventually. Heat lamps are just un natural, and directly cause issues.
