My journey into chicken keeping started several, when I impulsively bought 6 bantam chicks from Tractor supply. I kept them in a tote in our basement (they affectionately became known as "The Basement Chickens" and became a source of an inside joke) for about 2 weeks before I realized I had no idea what I was doing/was not prepared and couldn't give them what they needed. So my brother's in-laws graciously took them to their farm. About 3 months later, I got 3 hens (a light brahma, a speckled sussex, and a tan hen who we never could figure out what breed she was) after someone dumped 5 hens and a rooster overnight in the outdoor kennel yard at a vet clinic I used to work at. (2 hens and the rooster went to my brother's house.). My dad and I built a coop and everything for them! They did great, even though I was learning as I went. (I was under the impression that all they needed was basic layer pellets, oyster shell, and scratch) They were always so sweet and loved attention! They laid an average of 18 eggs a week. I loved having them and they were the coolest (and honestly the most rewarding) pets. After about 8 months of having them, my fiance (then boyfriend) and I decided to get a place together. Sadly the girls couldn't come with us (my mom was scared of chickens and my dad wasn't into the idea of having them either) so they also went to live with my brother.
Now, after 4 years, my fiance and I are buying a house and it's somewhere where we can have chickens again. We're both super excited and cannot wait to get them! (We have 10 chicks ordered, and we'll have them shipped to us. They should arrive May 29th or 30th!)

- I briefly had 3 chickens several years ago at my parents house before they had to go to my brother's in-law's farm. I moved out and couldn't take them with me. My fiance and I are now buying a house and it's in a place where we can have chickens. I want to be able to learn more about keeping/raising them and eventually hatching some out on our own!
