We use pelletized horse bedding to absorb moisture in their run so it doesn’t become a muddy mess and stink. We also used it in their coop when we had water in there (however now we don’t as we leave the coop open to the run all night). If you add the pellets in with the straw in the coop they...
Hi All! Just wanted to update on this thread I started so long ago. We continued tricide neo dips everyday for 10 min on each duck, followed by triple antibiotic and gauze with vet wrap. This worked to clear up any beginning bumble. Afterward, When we noticed a cut on the ducks foot we would...
Hi CoriM- How have you been? How have the ducklings been coming along? I hope issues have been at bay. We currently have 22 duck eggs in the incubator….I know right?? 5 days till first pip! We are re-homing three adult ducks to make way for 2 babies and sell the rest. Trying to keep things from...
Just writing to follow up this thread. It’s now been 6 months and our drake has had no drunken episodes. We believe he was having a reaction to the permethrin spray we used to treat mites. He was the youngest (only about 10 weeks) while everyone else were adults. In the future I won’t use...
OK I can pick that up at the pharmacy. I gave my ducklings Brewers yeast for their first eight weeks when they were in the brooder. But it was pretty expensive. I think it was $30 for a small bag. I think it was from pampered chicken mama. Can you recommend another product with the right levels...
This little guy has not had an episode since last Friday- the day he went to the vet. So far so good and only missed one dosage of antibiotics thus far! 😁
We followed the dilution ratios on the bottle and sprayed the coop and the enclosure. We added new straw and pine pelleted bedding after it...
He has not had any episodes since Friday. And I believe he started eating and drinking more. Whether it’s a correlation to the antibiotic is to be seen.
We have hot humid summers in NC as well and I use vinegar water to clean the coop but never thought to spray the wood decking around the pools. That is something I’m going to try. This bumble stuff is really problematic. 🙄
When you soak is it with ES? I have a bunch of koozies I’m going to cut...
Ditto on all accounts!! I feel like we are living similar duck mamma lives. And the same goes for my husband- lol, he thinks I obsess over our ducks way too much but I feel like I have too to keep them healthy and happy. This venture started out as my 7 year old pets and I was totally on board...
Thank you for saying those reassuring words. Really. We are new to farm animals and we have been inundated with issue after issue with our sweet ducks. It has to be a string of bad luck?! I realize now there are a lot of issues that can happen but in six months we have been dealing with one...
I have a 4 month old harlequin that has been having episodes where he struggles to walk. He is fine one minute and the next he is floppy and discombobulated when trying to walk. It’s hard to explain so I’ll post a video if I can. He flaps his wings haphazardly and unevenly while moving his legs...
We did evaluate their surroundings to see what could’ve been causing all the scabs on the majority of our 11 ducks. They have wood decking around their pools and we sanded down the edges of all the boards. We also wrapped the concrete blocks that are the step inside of the pools with a rubber...
