Understandable. I know once we decide on getting a few more birds to expand the flock a bit I sure don't like to wait around, especially when I go into the feed store and there all cute & fluffy and just right there in front of me, begging me to take 'em home! Lol... Last summer, that's exactly...
Lol...Well I figured it would taste a little bit like chicken
Have you eaten only the cockerels, or the hens too?
I just wonder if it's a bit gamey across the board or more like some cockerels in general can be.
I may try Caponizing one for comparison to see if it makes much...
Getting ready to set some more eggs here. On the last hatch I had 1/2 that hatched with the moon in Pisces but 1/2 were in Aries. I'm gonna try one more time, setting on the last possible night for a moon favorable hatch 3wks out...I swear, every other time I've hatched without paying attention...
I personally can't wait to raise up some of these Svarthönas that I'm hatching now so that I can cull a couple of cockerels & see what they taste like! I have never tried the meat of a fibromelanistic bird yet (silkies just don't seem worth the effort:)
Welcome back to BYC the Great Home away from Home, and Welcome to TEXAS, Tuscola Clucks!

We do have a few other breeds, too...
Well, I realize that they would normally be weaker hatching out so late... But what if they hatch out late on a lunar favorable date? I wonder if they would be less weakened by it.
It is the hatch day that counts. You want them to hatch during a waxing moon, in the fruitful signs (the water signs) of Pisces, Cancer, or Scorpio. February 7th & 8th are the favorable hatch days for chicks so setting eggs on January 17-18th was the recommended timing. If you set yours late on...
Wow! So glad I noticed this thread! The "Zodiac" in the title caught my eye and when I read on I found other people are doing the same thing I am! So Awesome!
I was not consistent enough with my record keeping last year so can not speak to the results. But THIS year, I'm on it:)
I set some...
I wondered about using vinegar. Figured if the baking soda didn't work, maybe making the membrane and shell more acidic would keep the albumin from sticking. Good to know it works, thanks Apiary!
Another thing that supposedly works is suspending eggs on a little tray in an airtight container...
