Linebreeding an extremely rare breed flock

I hope someone can help. I have imported hatching eggs last year and this year from France of a breed of chicken called Gournay. This breed is a dual purpose chicken but renowned for its meat particularly. I’m very keen to develop this breed and to spool out stock to a small select few of rare...

My old hen is doing a loud squawk and bleeding from the beak

She’s not eating or drinking - I shall keep a close eye on her all day and hope as time progresses she may start to recover. She’s got her beak half open and is closing her eyes a fair bit but is standing not lying or squatting

My old hen is doing a loud squawk and bleeding from the beak

She's in exactly the same environment as she has always been with the same chickens and bantam rooster. But we do have a Lakenvelder cockerel I bred about 4 months old who appears to be at the bottom of the pecking order. I think I will isolate her and see if she recovers

How long can hatched chick stay in incubator?

Oh dear! I didn't know you shouldn't open the incubator whilst the chicks are hatching - I've opened it a lot in the past 24 hours since the first one hatched. Number 2 is hatching but I will now leave well alone. The 21 days is up tomorrow so hopefully I won't have damaged the remainder. I...

Hi everyone. Great to have joined this group. I'm from a place called Three Legged Cross in Dorset UK. I've had chickens for years but am about to start breeding bantams in an incubator. We have decided on Frizzle Pekins and Frizzle Silkies. The one thing we would like advice on is sexing the...
