Here here! I completely agree with this post. People don't preach to vegetarians about how they should be eating meat. So why are they preaching to us that we shoulnt be? I also took offense to the comment, even though they tried to say it politely. The comment does in fact imply that meat...
I would rather feed my children with my own hens through out the winter, then to stop producing eggs in the winter, and buy commercial eggs from the grocery store from animals that have been caged their entire life and are culled as soon as they stop producing. For us it's a means of living as...
According to scientific studies(studies not related to funding by commercial egg producers, heat and cold play a factor....on top of light. Everything and everywhere I research says cold and heat alone play a factor, on top of the many factors. I'm not disagreeing that your correct about the...
Heat and cold DOES play a factor. As well as light. According to people who study for their Batchelor of science, and according to large scale farmers.
I did more indepth research on this matter in light of consistent remarks from people saying that the cold itself doesn't impact a chickens...
When I said the chickens know their babies can't survive in the cold and dark, I was referring to their subconscious. The same as what your saying. It's nature. Their 'internal and natural clock' knows....
I was not meaning at all that they make the conscious decision NOT to produce offspring...
If people choose to do commercial feed because the feed is specificlly and scientifically made for maximum egg production.... That's their choice. Not everyone has the time, means, knowledge or money to mix their own food. The feed in those commercial bags....they come from farmers. regardless...
You literally told the poster that there's no need to crush the eggs and to just throw them in with the birds. Now your saying you DO crush the eggs. So what's the point in all this aart? And all your other negative responses to my valid and educational advice?
Oh my god aart. stop looking for...and spamming all my responses on back yard chickens. Every post I've ever made .... you've left a negative comment, with inaccurate information. Every time I try to help people, you leave a negative useless remark to my post. Which is why my defences were up...
Well I have to say, your response acctually brought a smile to my face. Genuinely.
Clearly in my post I acted somewhat defensive, and some of my views in life are strong. you have a way with lightening the mood, and making it a positive experience.
As for the boyfriend. He doesn't live in my...
I explained the entire 'nature taking course' in the previous post, and also explained it's a personal decision to be made. I don't add heat to my chicken coop. I insulate the chicken coop walls with hay for the winter. That seems to be enough warmth for my chickens to stay warm, be happy and...
The reason for heating the egg shells ...is so that they easily crush when a person is preparing them. Have you ever tried to crush an egg into tiny pieces that wasn't baked? It isn't very easy. The membranes on the inside of the eggs makes it very hard.
Your right...some people do just throw...
It's plastered all over the internet that keeping your chickens warm during winter will help them produce eggs in the winter. It's not just in one blog. I gave that link as an educational resource.
Industrial chicken farmers also keep their buildings at a very specific temperature. Because it...
About heat not playing a factor in laying. When it gets cold chickens stop laying to preserve their energy for staying warm, and because they know their chicks won't survive. There are other factors as well obviously like light and food. But cold/heat does play a factor.
