    Spring 2017 first timers post!

We moved ours outside into the coop after three weeks (they are going to be six weeks in a few days). I do have a ceramic bulb in there for heat since our nights had gone down to 20 degrees for the last two weeks and turn it off during the day. And they have been playing/foraging in the pen.

    Spring 2017 first timers post!

I have been putting feed in my hand and placing it in the box (or when I have them out in the pen I sit on the ground and feed them). They run over and attack my hand. I have also been taking them out of the box one at a time and holding them and just talking to them.

    Spring 2017 first timers post!

I was a little overzealous when they had some hard poop so I decided to do a little "surgery" by a quick pull on the poop and it removed the down around the butt and no longer any dirty butts.

    Spring 2017 first timers post!

Took each of the girls (2 Easter Eggers, Golden Comet, Buff Orp, Barred Rock Plymouth) out of the brooder box for 5-10 minutes and we watched the Oscars together. One of the Easters decided my belly was comfortable enough for a nap.

    Spring 2017 first timers post!

We have two Easter Eggers, a Golden Comet, Buff Orp, Barred Rock Plymouth to round out our five. Now 12 days old. Have already been outside in the pen for most of the day Thursday and Friday this week because of the amazingly warm weather here in Northern Virginia.

post your chicken coop pictures here!

It is our "car port." Our original metal car port was destroyed during a big storm 5 years ago. So I built a structure to support a tarp and cover the cars (which is really my outdoor work space).
