I know, I feel silly for being so surprised by it. But I reached out to the woman I got the eggs from and sent her the pictures. She said it was definitely a leghorn egg based on the pictures.
Very interesting! My first thought was the black one looked like a barred rock chick, but they wouldn't lay a big white egg. It's a welcome surprise, but a surprise nonetheless! I never expected a black chick to come out of a white egg.
I bought from a local farm. Half were lavender orpington and half were "barnyard mix". Her ad only specifically mentioned lavenders, leghorns and blue laced wyandottes. The only ones that hatched were 3 lavenders and those 3 large white eggs. All fertilized by a lavender orpington rooster.
I just hatched six eggs 3 of which were identical large white eggs. I thought they'd all be white Leghorns but one is black! Also the two that came out yellow have little black freckles on their backs. Any ideas? The last picture of the cuddle puddle is the only one I have where the black specks...
They all looked up at me when I tapped the glass and they just started scooting around a bit. But it almost seems like they can't stand. Maybe they're just exhausted?
They are conscious and responsive to touch and sound. These guys hardly slept all night, they were falling all over each other and the other eggs. Just constantly moving. They put out a few shrill peeps at first when I put them in and since they've just been like this. One tried to stand a...
I have 3 chicks that hatched late last night. They were super active but struggling to move around the incubator because it was crowded with other eggs. A fourth baby really struggled to get out of the shell because of these three piling on top.
So I just moved them into the brooder and they...
This is a better picture showing the crack on the bottom of the egg. It doesn't look like the other pips, it's like a big chunk of the shell has been pushed away
Ok I'm back with more pictures...
This one that's cracked on the underside, how will it get air? You can see the air cell up top. Has it actually pipped down below or did it accidentally break through the wrong side with a foot?
And the second picture, is this what an internal pip looks like?
I'm not seeing any liquid from the upside downer. I occasionally hear one loud cry and panic a bit wondering if it's in distress.
I've been glued to it for days already! I thought this would be so fun to have some hatching easter eggs for my son, but I've never been so anxious in my life! 😆...
I can't see very well through one of the questionable ones as the shell is darker brown. But also haven't been able to see the internal pips in any of the others, just the cracks in the shells. I guess I'm not sure what to look for? I also have one that has pipped on the underside. Hearing...
