My chicken’s chest is swollen and I don’t know what to do…

Yes- I tried to tilt her and force her to puke it up and it wouldn’t come out

My chicken’s chest is swollen and I don’t know what to do…

She does not and it was the crop that was full when we butchered her

My chicken’s chest is swollen and I don’t know what to do…

The crop was still full this morning. We tried draining it multiple times but nothing more than a few drops came out… even though the crop was soft and fluid filled. We decided to cull her… 😢

My chicken’s chest is swollen and I don’t know what to do…

It’s squishy… I isolated her, but she was eating and acting fine, so that makes me think it’s not the crop, and maybe water belly… however the swelling is definitely near the crop. I’ll read the articles. Thanks!

My chicken’s chest is swollen and I don’t know what to do…

I don’t know how long this has been going on because I haven’t been able to come see my girls the last few days, but I just let them out to free range and say hi and noticed one of them has a really swollen chest. She’s eating and acting fine, but it’s too swollen to be just her crop expanding...

    Chicken with ripped open comb

It’s been a while and she is fine now with just a a little bit of a scab and a little floppy piece of the comb!

    Summer treats!

It’s been really hot lately and I decided to make my girls some frozen treats with some scraps I had laying around. They loved it so I thought I’d share! Ingredients: 3 cups of Swiss chard 1 dry pint of blueberries 1/2 a cup of broccoli 1/2 a cup of watermelon 1/4 a cup of watermelon juice 1/5...

    Chicken with ripped open comb

The run is mostly hard wire mesh, so I don’t think that was the cause. She was looking a lot better tonight when I checked on her. The original hens were still being bullies, but they didn’t reopen the wound. I’ll monitor her.

    Chicken with ripped open comb

I have only hens. She isn’t super low in the pecking order, however she is part of a batch I introduced in the spring and the original flock bullies ALL the new ones. They have been integrated for months and are the same size. I have no idea how to get the original flock to quit being mean. I...

    Chicken with ripped open comb

When I went to collect eggs today, I found my chickens had attacked and ripped the back part of the comb of my gold laced Wyandotte, Toffee. I’m not sure when this was, since I did not go in the chicken’s coop yesterday. She seems to be acting fine as of now. Is there anything I can do to help...

    Food restrictions for Cornish cross

This has been super helpful! All of my Cornish x are still alive and super healthy! They went outside for the first time today and loved it. However, they ate some bugs and grass and such. Do I need to provide grit for them? They don’t really forage, so I don’t think they will get any rocks from...

    Food restrictions for Cornish cross

Would it be possible to throw the feed on the ground? I am putting them in a run area that will be stationary but a large area for just the six. Would they be able to get it if I spread it out, or would this not be suitable for these birds?

    Food restrictions for Cornish cross

I got 6 Cornish cross chicks. I’ve been researching food restrictions. There is a lot of different methods, like the 12 hour on 12 hour off feed schedule. At what age do Cornish cross need their food restricted? How much do they need every day as they grow? When should I switch their feed from...

    Are these Roos or hens?!

I have some chickens that are a little under 3 months old. The two I’m not sure of the gender are supposed to be some sort of Egger. I ordered the Egger mix from Hoovers hatchery. They have bigger combs and waddles than some of the others, which are some Wyandottes, a black Australorp, a...
