    You are right. I've had enough experience with rosters that I will never have another one. The only chicks I buy are red sex link and black sex link.

    To much heat!!!! If the chickens are kept in a room free of drafts and at least 65 to75 degrees I would not use any heat. When they get their feathers and the night time lows outside are no lower than 60 I put them outside. The ONLY time I lost baby chicks was do to keeping them to hot.

    I have been raising chickens for eight years in northern California. I do not give them light in the winter. They stop laying in late fall and don't start laying until March. I am a major fan of red sex link or black sex link. Once the girls start laying I get six eggs per chicken per seven days.

    Advice: Get a Rooster!

    Get rid of your rooster. I had one until it attacked my 4 year old grandson. Luckily he only scratched his arm before I could get to him.
