    Automatic chicken door

Thanks. I need two timers, one to open and the other to close the door. No, I'm unfamiliar with light sensors. I might look into it but if it takes more electronics then no. This system is simple and that's why I chose it. Solar power will be my next addition. I wanted to keep it inexpensive...

    Automatic chicken door

You bet. Maybe it will inspire someone to try and build something instead of buying it. When it's a possibility to make it, I will.

    Automatic chicken door

I built this off a design I saw on youtube. It is simple to make if you have some building skills. It runs off a rotisserie motor, a couple timers and two micro switches. It took me a week to build because I had to figure out all the materials I needed and had to make everything. I searched...

Automatic chicken door wiring issue, need help.

I figured it out. I had the polarity for the bottom plug backwards. Once that was fixed everything works like it should, except I need new micro switches. Now no more getting up early or having to be home before dark to make sure the chickens are in the coop.

Automatic chicken door wiring issue, need help.

I saw a design on YT that I liked and thought this is simple enough so I set out and built something very similar to what I saw. The problem I'm having now is the wiring. I wired everything up like the video showed but I must have done something wrong. When I plugged everything in I popped...

    Chipmonks

I would say no. They might try and eat the food you put out for the chicken but I don't see them hurting a chicken. Your safe.

    It hasn't gotten any easier.

Thanks for the thoughts. That was a great article. Our sole purpose is to have eggs and meat and its either the hens or the roos. I didn't mention that we live in the county and in a sub divided neighborhood. We don't have any restrictions or covenants so we were ok to have them but I don't...

    It hasn't gotten any easier.

I culled my first rooster a few months back and it was from incubation to full grown bird. He was mean so it wasn't to hard but I hated that it took me too long to catch him and he was stressed out. I made the deed quick and painless as possible. Our next roo was a different story. His name...

incubator ideas! post your ideas for home made incubators, whether they work or not~

I found out that the incubator can vary more than 3 degerees and eggs still hatch. Mine varied from 99-102 and nothing bad happened. The humidity levels were around 35-60 for the first 3 weeks and the last 3 days were 70-80. I always felt that a mother hen was not going to be as accurate as we...

It sounds like a bad thermostat. I also drilled holes to make mine more sensitive.

I used the egg turner idea from one guy on ebay but the overall layout was a mix and match. Good source of info.

I got 10 out of 11 to hatch. The last one started forming but never hatched. Now here's to hoping for pullets.

Baby chicks pecking at each other

I went ahead and put them together and watched them closely. They bombarded blackie for a bit but eventually left him/her alone.

Baby chicks pecking at each other

All my RIR chicks are viciously attacking my black sex link chic. Its so bad its 8-1 and I am afraid they will kill it. I had to separate them. Is there a way to stop this?
