I noticed tons of the above mentioned plants on the toxic list of the site you provided a link for. But, it seems everything is toxic in one way or another.

Most people in subdivisions in Bedford are within city limits, not county agricultural zones.

    Young rooster not crowing but.......ehhemm....

While most roos crow and act out their roohood on any pullet or hen nearby, they are not actually fully sexually mature until about a year. I wouldn't hold it against him...he'll do his duty when it's time.

Ok, I know I'm posting a lot here, but here it is. I just got off the phone with the zoning department of Bedford County VA. You must look on a zoning map to see how your property is zoned. For example, I live at an address that is zoned as agricultural preserve. The local law and ordinance is...

are your dogs and chicken friends

Eden is only two years old, but so far she is great with our chicks. She follows me diligently while I change water and feed. Also, when I have the older 8 outside, she is right by the fence to keep any wanderers from going too far. Being a runner and chaser, I still keep her on a line when the...

Do any predators hunt during the day?

Even hardware cloth won't stop a determined predator, but it will slow them down. I have windows on my coop that are covered with steel screen covering, 1/4 inch hardware cloth, and reinforced by wooden beams also reinforced by zinc galvanized plated structural hardware flats. I also have motion...
