Just an update here for future readers who may have this same issue .... we watched her very closely, kept her separate from the marans and gave her some mash (wet pellet and yoghurt) and she seemed to be getting more energy. A few days later she was back to her normal self, and a week later the...
Hello everyone. Our poor araucana has had quite a rough life so far. When we introduced her along with a marans, the flock were awful and attacked both of them despite the very slow monitored introduction. Our araucana was badly injured overnight, but with a bit of care and patience came out of...
Thanks for the response. There was no policy given at purchase. I'm now told it is on her website but I dealt with her through her Facebook page and wasn't directed to the website at all. From my limited google research since posting, it does seem as though most breeders say similar.
Australian...
Hi everyone, I'm keen to hear from breeders on your rooster return policy.
I recently purchased 3 x day-olds from a local breeder, she told me they were all girls. At four weeks I noticed one of them had a bigger redder comb than the other two. I contacted the breeder, she said no it looks...
Thanks so much, I hope you're right !
She's an araucana :) I think they're called ameraucana in the US. We have a 28 week old araucana also who has been giving us lovely little blue eggs
Oh gosh, no it's gold ! Not sure why I wrote that !
That is a massive bummer about it being a cockerel =( Hopefully the breeder will swap him
I might add some pics of the other two chicks to get your opinions also please. Hopefully they're girls !
Hello everyone, this one is 7 weeks old and I'm starting to worry we have a cockerel on our hands. The other day old we got at the time has basically no comb or wattle at the moment, and has more tail feathers. This one has a wider comb and both the comb and wattle have a bit of colour.
Just an update ! They're all laying again normally as of two weeks ago. Interestingly, they all restarted at the same time as our Araucana started laying. They are all looking gorgeous so I suspect that moulting was the reason.
Unfortunately now none of them are laying in the nesting boxes. You...
I've searched the entire yard :) I was hoping for a hidden egg stash but no such luck.
On the plus side, when they do lay - they are now laying in the nesting boxes ! That was our first challenge
We bought pullets, they were 14 weeks old from memory. Started laying around 26-27 weeks. They're currently 40 weeks.
Thanks so much. Moulting does seem most likely at this point... only because nothing else seems to make sense. I guess I just expected them to look more ragged ! They're...
Thanks for the response :) I did think that after a quick google but haven't seen any signs of it on the chooks. I will keep an eye on them. Do they do that every year ? It's weird that it seems like one of them is still laying (or perhaps both the ISA browns)
