Thank you for your reply. I think I have decided to let the breeder do it. I can’t find a vet who is taking swans. It seems anyone who has swans pinions.
The breeder says I should cut the end of the wing so you don’t have to do the feathers every year but I find it inhumane to take away the swan’s ability to fly but I also don’t want I also don’t want them to fly away and starve or get eaten.
I am hatching 2 black swans and I would like everyone’s opinions or experience with wing pinion. I really don’t want to but breeders are telling me I should. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to be irresponsible but I feel it is inhumane. Thank you!
Hi, I hatched this duckling from purchased eggs from a mixed colour flock of call ducks. At first I thought it was going to be a white but it seams to have some brownish colour in it. Any thought from you would be greatly appreciated on its possible adult duck colour. Thank you!
I didn’t help mine until 3 died in their shell as they pipped but didn’t progress any further. Mine had totally detached air cells so I knew my hatch rate was going to be very low. I wouldn’t help normal hatching chicks.
I had shipped eggs that all the air cells were totally detached and the ones that tried to hatch pipped on the small end and didn’t hatch. When 2 other eggs did the same thing after several hours of not progressing I helped them out of the shells. 1 of the 2 is okay but has a bit of trouble...
That’s too bad. I just had some shipped eggs that the shipper didn’t specify Fragile or any warnings on the box so all the eggs had severely detached air cells and only 2 hatched on their own. I had to help 2 others out of their shell and 1 of them is not doing well. It’s so hard when we...
UPDATE: A beautiful olive egger chick hatched successfully. The opposite end of the air cell was pretty badly cracked and also down the side. So happy with the outcome.
I accidentally cracked my large olive egg on day 17, I have put vaseline on the crack and gone into lockdown a half a day early. I didn’t put the candle wax on since it is about to hatch in a few days. What do you guys think?
