Rat Vet - RIP Nermal the rat - thanks for the help

Sorry to say our sweet little rat passed on early this morning. As always, it's nice to have BYC support -- what a great group of people. I will keep the Garden Grove vet recommendation for the future. Thank you very much.

Does anyone know of a vet knowledgeable about rats in Orange County CA or surrounding areas? My son's pet rat is lethargic & needs to see someone asap tomorrow! Thanks!

please advise - what's your favorite candler available commercially?

Wanting to buy a candler. I know I could make one but don't want to deal with it. Wondered whether anyone has found something available commercially that works great?

Quote: What was the name of the OTC medication for scabies? There is permethrin cream, but as far as I know it's not OTC, at least not in the US.

So I used the ivermectin pour on on the two silkies, one drop on the skin back of neck. One recovered very quickly (she had already quit the nest & I think the exercise & fresh air helped too). The other's face still looks bad. I retreated her after 4-5 days and it didn't help. She hatched...

I have twin black silkies who have been sitting on a nest together for about 3 weeks (they've had eggs for 2 wk). In the last few days I noticed they have a scaly, crusty rash around their eyes & ear lobe. They try to scratch at it. The rest of my flock seems fine.
