This is a roo right? 😭

Silver laced wyandotte. Supposed to be a pullet. 6 weeks old tomorrow. Got tail feathers later and the comb seems a but redder than the others of the same age. If it is can I introduce another similarly aged bird at this point, my kids are going to be so sad if we have to rehome this one.

Late tail feathers on one chick

I have 5 chicks (supposed to all be female) all 4 weeks old tomorrow. Most are similarly feathered out different breeds. (Buff orp, SLW, GLW, columbian wyandotte, and olive egger) One chick, the silver laced wyandotte, doesnt really have tail feather yet. Is that a concern? I didnt expect a big...

    Chick grit

I have five chicks that are 3 days old. They are eating medicated feed. I wanted to start chick grit too. Can I just add some to the mason jar feeder and if so how much grit per cup of food? Later I know you do free choice but I saw that it is recommended to add to food at first. Also they go...

Pdz in brooder and basic chick prep questions.

Is it safe to put pdz in the brooder with chicks? I am doing puppy pads with pine shavings on top. I get the chicks Monday. We are picking up at the hatchery about an hour away. I ordered gro gel so thats what they get first right? I also have electrolyte packs so I'll add that to their...

    Covid-panic-induced chicken keeping?

We bought chicks because of covid. I dont see this going back to normal any time soon and my older child only eats fresh eggs. Having chickens, along with our own garden will reduce the need for frequent store trips. (If only I could raise salmon in the suburbs). That being said we have been...

    Brooder location question

I have this large pet playpen I'm planning on using for a brooder. I'm debating where in the house to put it. We have this unheated entry way off the living room by our front door that we never use. Would that be okay for them? We could leave the door to the living room open for some airflow...
