my head hen will make a noise that is pretty darn close to crowing, more like a long crow
she makes this noise a couple of times a day. the first time i heard it, i was standing next to the run and it scared the pants off me

Australorps seem to be willing to stay out later in the evening than the other breeds. Maybe their black eyes gather light better

my australorps will keep the orpingtons out and about until well into dusk,
they seem to dictate when its night coop time
from your description, the flock is at peace
dont think of it as "killing", think of it as "eating"
i think that if you add that mean hen back in to the flock, your problems will start once again
