haha 7 biddies Probably as good an answer as any--LOL I don't worry about the spots off and on but these eggs are partially faded like they are sun bleached. Maybe they went too fast through the paint booth and didn't get covered.
I usually have brown eggs---every once in awhile I find an egg that is faded tan. It looks like it is sun faded. The first time I found 2 out in the run and thought they WERE sun faded. That was when we had over 100 degree heat. Now I find them in the coop every once in awhile and they still...
I have kind of resigned myself to the mulch being thrown everywhere. I think in the spring I might mulch with river rock to see if that keeps them from digging so much. Right now they don't range too far from the coop and I think part of that is they aren't out too long. My daughter just lost...
Amazing! But you said you could move this if you wanted---lol. My coop is only a revamped dog house. Afraid if I had something bigger I might have to fill it. Love yours.
I wouldn't venture a guess although some of them seemed to be missing their back feathers so I guess those were the pullets I just enjoyed the pictures. guess I'm a true chicken addict
That looks wonderful for the chickies :) I'm wondering though if the cats might be able to climb that.? Time will tell I guess. I have been free ranging my girls in the evening while I can sit out an watch them. My barn cats were very interested in them while we were building the run but...
Thanks for the info. The size has gone down quite a bit. Must just be her crop. Looked this morning and it was way down. I let them free range in the evenings and by the time she goes in it is noticably larger. Gave them yogurt this morning so will see how it goes. Thanks everyone for the...
Thanks for the info. I have some yogurt on hand so will do with that until I can get to town. I have given them yogurt before and they liked it. It is less than the first time I noticed it but she can still hit it when she walks. It was huge. I also wondered if I could give them too much...
It seems to have gone down some but is still there. It also felt to be under the skin more that anything else. It is not on one side or the other. If it is sour crop what is the next thing I do? Could it be a lot of water since it is so hot and maybe she is drinking a lot?
Have a hen that I thought was broody and when I reached under her to find any eggs her breast was heavy and "squishy". It hangs down even when she walks. She is not broody (sat for about 2 days) and goes outside often. Seems healthy otherwise. I know of another hen in another flock with the...
I think that is the answer to the light question. Not that they need all night light but just extended daytime. X amount of hours of light for egg production.
I too have had no trouble with them laying in the winter. I let them out of the coop and they seem to get all the sun they need. I do have a solar light above the "egg" door as sort of a porch light but it doesn't shine inside. Life is mostly trial and error anyway so try it and let us know.
Hello to you from Nebraska--lol. Great things going on here. My past chicken raising entailed letting them free range and roost whereever they wanted. Twenty years later and I have a coop and pen so they are safe. Got a little closer to these hens and I sure don't want anyting to happen to...
