I can help you a little bit. I tried an "small" version of your experiment this spring. Some background:
This spring, I had several Sweetgrass turkeys, half a dozen Beltsville Whites and a pair of BBW's....all hatched from eggs in an incubator in 2009 and wintered over. The BBW tom weighed...
While still living in MT, I had some problems with night visits from predators....fox, raccoon, skunks and badgers. I found a place on the web where I was able to download "sounds", including several versions of barking dogs .... for free....bought the longest timed DVD I could come up with...
I disagree that a dog cannot be trained to leave birds alone once it has killed a bird. If you're of the mind that a dog cannot be physically disciplined (read: have it's butt swatted HARD), then probably not. But:
When I got my Great Pyranees/Border Collie female, she was a year old and...
Hi Katy; I personally prefer turkeys to chickens, even though I have both. While still living in Montana, I had Blue Slates, Bourbon Reds, Royal Palms, Black Spanish, Midget Whites, BBW's and BBB's. Now, on smaller acreage and hot weather and high humidity that requires more careful...
Hi Barnswallow I just had something similar happen so can only tell you what I did.
Mine (Sweetgrass) had nested next to the border fence in the pasture right behind the machine shed at the edge of the feed ground......with one of her sisters. When the eggs started hatching, the sister...
Oklahoma Lightning
I use the dry method of hatching, with egg cartons/flats too. Only put water in my Brinsea 'bator when the humidity is down to 25%. On my own eggs, I've had a minimum of 80% hatching rate on eggs put in the hatcher at day 25....as you've done. First time I tried it, had...
Well CRAP; I watched Channel 2 News last night, and instead of the lawyers, they had a panel of CPA's answering the phone lines. Apparently every week is something different. If the lawyers only show up once a month, you're going to have to follow a different path for some legal information...
Back about two lifetimes ago, my family and I raised rabbits for a processor in ND; had 250 producing does when he went belly up and left a lot of people holding the bag.
We had all wire cages in a gutted dairy barn with big fans in the windows.
Anyway....check for a cat messing around on the...
Lived in SE MT for 30 years until two years ago; does that count for anything? I'm working on getting back there....found that there is something much worse than an Alberta Clipper whipping through the yard.....it's long summers of 100 degrees +/- and daily humidity starting out at 90% and...
Have been watching this thread in disbelief, and can only say, "Hon, you REALLY need to get a lawyer!!!" Sent this thread address to my daughter in Fargo, who was a legal secretary/paralegal for 20 years, and she was floored that something like this could be happening.
Along that line, while...

I guess I could video me trying to bend over and reach the eggs on the bottom row.
Made myself a gadget to take care of that. Works great.....take a plastic spaghetti scoop....the one that has 7 or 8 upward curving fingers around the edge....get a hunk of gray plastic conduit...
Have to admit that it took me a while to decide to post my earlier addition to this thread. There are a lot of people in this world who think animals need to be treated like people....especially cats. It's been my experience (through 72 very "active" years) that animals march to their own...
When still living in MT, I had the honor of being the local dump ground for every unwanted cat in a 3 county area....or so it seemed. As long as they behaved themselves, they had winter shelter in my straw bedded horse trailer with my GP/Border Collie guard dog, and a daily ration of dry cat...
The OP mentioned that this was for an older incubator that he did not have/could not buy a plastic liner for.
I've also found that this cleans up much easier than the plastic trays do; they have all those grooves and canyons where stuff wants to stay, and sometimes you have to get pretty...
I coated mine mostly to make them easier to clean up and disinfect after a hatch.
Get the inside of the bottom half as clean as possible; I even used disinfectant water on mine after gently scrubbing the entire inside with soapy water and rinsing. Find a place where it can sit in the sun for...
