How long does it take a barred rock rooster to reach butchering size

I have 20 Barred rock roosters in a chicken tractor. How long does it take a barred rock rooster to reach butchering size? I have not raised roosters for meat birds before. I don't want them to get old and tough. Big experiment for me. I wanted 3 roosters for my hens and ended up with 20 so...

    Chickens quit laying

I don't think there is a predator. They are eating layer pellets. The water is ok. It has been freezing and we have to take them water a couple times a day. They seem to be ok. They haven't come out of the coop since it has been cold the past week. It is going to warm up some and they will...

    Chickens quit laying

I have 28 chickens and they have stopped laying. They will be 1 year old in feb 28th. They have gone from 12 eggs a day to 0. Sometimes there will be 1 or 2. Is it just because of shorter days?

Happy hen treats nipple waterers make a wet spot in the brooder

Those horizontal nipples look interesting. just curious, what do you do in the winter time. I use a black rubber bowl and get them fresh water every day. I don't have electric in my coop so I need to check it more often if it is freezing.

Happy hen treats nipple waterers make a wet spot in the brooder

I have installed 4 nipple waterers for chicks in a brooder. The nipples do not leak, but the chicks don't drink all the water when they peck at it and it gets the bedding wet. I had to remove it and go with a classic water tank type. I was going to make one for the coop but if they get the coop...

    Rollaway nesting boxes

I am using 5 gallon buckets for nesting boxes and I am increasing the flock size from 6 birds to 28. And I don't like cleaning poop off eggs. I have just discovered something called a rollaway nest box. I am looking at a box from best nest box that is 48 inches long. Does anyone have any...

2 week old chicks pecking each other

I talked to the guy at the coop where I purchased the chicks and he told me to use a red heat lamp. Tha red heat lamp seems to have calmed them down. Maybe it will buy me some time until I divide my garage.

2 week old chicks pecking each other

My coop is 12 X 12 with a big run and I let them out to forage for bugs during the day. If I wanted to keep them all together what size stock tank would I need? Should they be fully feathered at 4 to 6 weeks?

2 week old chicks pecking each other

I have them in a 2 x 6 foot stock tank in my garage. It is small but I was hoping to get them to 4 weeks and turn them loose in the coop and run. The nights are not getting below 40 degrees. do you think I can put them in the coop now? I don't have electricity out there for a heat lamp. For now...

2 week old chicks pecking each other

I have 28 2 week old chicks that are pecking on one another. I just noticed it tonight so I put peck no more on the back of their necks. Do you think this will stop them. This is the first time I have tried to raise up this many chicks. I was planning on moving them to the coop in 2 more weeks...

    adding 6 guineas

I have a 12 x 12 coop with a 16 x 8 run. I have 5 red adult hens. I just acquired 6, 2 week old keets that are living in a large water container in my garage. When can I start introducing the guineas to the chickens? I was thinking I could range the guineas during the day and let them in the...
