    vintage incubator

My old incubator did good. I set it with 24 RIR eggs & hatched 20. I don't know what the average is, but I am happy. Looks like my Roo is doing his job.

    vintage incubator

The perforated tray lifts out, nothing under. The heat all comes from a heating element in the top of the lid. I last used it in 1997.

    vintage incubator

I only have a cheep digital hygrometer and I don't know how to calibrate it. My mercury thermometer only has a range of 90 to 110 Deg. so I can't use the ice water trick.

    vintage incubator

I have a very old incubator, looks like a upside down wash tub. It has the original mercury thermometer. The temp. is staying very consistant but I'm having trouble getting the humidity above 35%. Any help with the humidity? and do I have a chance of being successful? Thanks for your help, Doug

I am raising a few egg layers. They are 11 weeks old now and outside in Michigan. My question is, do they need extra light now or only when they are ready to start laying? Thanks for your help

Thanks for the reply, Do yours lay outdoors or in the coop ? I just got my first egg, it was on the floor of the coop, not in the next box.

    free range eggs

Hi everyone, I'm new here & have a question. I have 6 Rhode Island Red hens that are 19 weeks old. I am waiting for my first egg. My free range hens return to their coop and are locked in every night. My question is will they go to the coop to lay or will I find eggs hidden outdoors ? Thanks...
