    California Greys???

There are few Calif. Greys out there. Privett has the best and only pure line that I am aware of, it being of both Welp and Colonial strains. Some others claiming to have them are simply crossing barred rocks with leghorns and selling you a hybrid bird that will not grow true. I would be...

Please see my reply to buckbye. you won't be disappointed with their reds.

    central hatchery

Good for you! As for whomever asked about the RI's from Central. My sister has had them for years. They're great layers, nice color, but not a large as the old time RI's that Mrs. Marti of Marti Poultry had, but nicer sized than the so called RI Reds that most other hatcheries have. Their...

    central hatchery

You can tell, eh? A book can not be judged by its cover and a hatchery can not be judged by their website. I think their website if nice, actually. Get to see the laying flocks, what's wrong with that? I have been to their hatchery, nice modern facilities right along US Hwy 81 near Madison...

    California Greys???

No, since hatching eggs really should be sold only under NPIA rules and regs and I'm not registered with them. I am deathly afraid of buying birds or chicks from hatcheries that are not certified and would warn others to do the same. Talk to Privett. I believe they may sell eggs. Their lines...

    Barred rock or Californian grey?

You didn't buy a Calif. Grey then as they lay snow white eggs. Don't know where your TSC gets their chicks. Perhaps Ideal and I don't believe they are offering true Cal Greys.

    Just adopted Muscovies..

Well, we live in an extremely German area. The time we inherited muscovies, we had an awful time selling them when they were butchered. Finally one guy agreed to take them if they were smoked. We never had trouble sellling regular ducks, in fact our waiting list was always longer than the...

    Just adopted Muscovies..

I do not treat them "badly". In fact, they have all the room on the planet to roam here plus a twenty acre lake to swim on, Considerable better life than cooped up in a chicken house with chickens. I prefer real ducks to muscovies. I know some people love them, but still the muscovy will...

    Aggressive Toms

I truly question the person claiming "bad stock" . What do they mean by this. Bad stock refers to their body type, coloring, etc. My assumption is you're happy with that and so they are not of "bad stock". I find it hilarious when people do not want their male birds to be aggressive...

I need some turkey knowledge, please...

Definately broad breasted by their size. Problem coming from that is that big birds like that have difficulty mating. Those broad breast birds, dark and white used in the poultry industy are artificially insemenated. They will still make good pets but you won't get poults of your own, and of...

    Just adopted Muscovies..

As has already been presented. It is a misnomer to call a Mucovie a duck. They are in their own class and are neither duck nor goose. They do not quack, they have a hook on the end of their beak, they have deadly claws on their feet and as you've discovered, they roost. They will fly up...

Comment by 'oldtimeway' in item 'California Grey'

Absolutely, there were few if any poultrymen of the day like James Dryden. Unfortunately his poor son Horrace had to live in the large shadow cast by the great man, James Dryden. James Dryden began the work of developing the Calif. Grey but Horrace finished his fathers work and it was Horrace...

    California Greys???

Stromberg is not a hatchery but a clearing house actually just brokering chicks from other hatcheries. The only true California Greys in the whole US are at Privett and his descend from Dryden stock so you don't have to be concerned there. For many years there were two lines of Dryden stock...

    California Greys???

You do not have a California Grey then! If you did, the eggs would be pure white. Production blacks will throw those tinted eggs if they crossing is hastily done and the tinted egg trait not bred out. But please don't blame it on the Cal Grey, their eggs are white.
