Good idea about the u channel. Thanks! I think I made my panel cuts too exact to afford bending the edges back.

    Coop Nest Box Lid Repair

I’ve finally gotten around to doing this and have everything measured cut and ready to install. But now it’s occurred to me im going to have some somewhat sharp metal edges from the roof panels exposed on the gable ends and eave. Are there any recommendations for making this less dangerous...

    Coop Nest Box Lid Repair

Okay, thanks! I will give it a try. I'm hoping the overhang above is enough that I don't have to worry about flashing. I never had a problem before.

    Coop Nest Box Lid Repair

Thanks for the responses. I'm wondering if I should replace the T1-11 with a fresh sheet before I add the metal roofing. The existing T1-11 is pretty bad at least in the right hand corner. Though I suppose it will get covered up. Also I lacks the means to cut the sheet lengthwise at a 45...

    Coop Nest Box Lid Repair

Hi everyone. We've got one of those "Amish made" chicken coops that comes premade and dropped off via a trailer. It has been great. But over the years with the rain falling on the nest box lid the wood is starting to rot. Has anyone tried to replace the lid before on a similar design, and how...

    Day 10: 1/7 Appears Viable

Good news, I'm terrible at candling. Two unexpected hatchlings. Still waiting on the one egg with the confirmed chick inside. Though in my defense the two surprise chicks came from olive-colored eggs.

    Day 10: 1/7 Appears Viable

That was my initial thought as well. But all the local sellers here are back-ordered well into May.

    Day 10: 1/7 Appears Viable

I'm at day 10 of incubating. And after candling only one egg appears to have a viable embryo. It's got veins and visible movement. The remaining eggs are a combination of what appears to be just yolks, air sacs, or 50% cloudy or scrambled looking for lack of better word. Assuming that this lone...

Adding Roost Bars to Amish Coops

I've got 6 older girls and a roo. And then 6 young ladies. The coop is 4x6'. The divider may work. Got any photos of a setup like that?

Adding Roost Bars to Amish Coops

Thanks for the feedback. It hadn't occurred to me to just make a free-standing roost. I was concerned about adding something that would interfere with cleaning. But if its freestanding, I can easily remove it as needed.

Adding Roost Bars to Amish Coops

Hi. I've come to this site for awhile now for great information. But this is my first time posting. I'm looking to hear from those of you with the "Amish/Quaker" design coops that have added additional roost bars. This past spring I added some chicks to my existing flock. But the older girls...
