Orpingtons and Amerucanas lay good sized eggs pretty constant, I have heard. My flock includes sex links and barred rocks which lay pretty constantly and their egg sizes seem big to me.
Oyster shells are okay, but shouldn't be mixed with your flock's feed. Another way to supplement your chickens with calcium is their own eggshells. I rinse out the eggshells and crush them into bits and my chickens prefer the eggshells over the oyster shells... Try both oyster and egg shells...
Currently, I have one barred rock and three sex links, but I am looking to experiment with different breeds. I would like a breed that is quiet, but friendly, lays efficiently, and is resistant to hot climate. Suggestions?
