I got my chicks this year from CCC feeds. Healthy looking group but I have suspicions that all my Americauna are male.
Only time will tell, they are only about 6 weeks old.
I am close to Eastford...just one town over.
This area is ag friendly. We are in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut and part of the Last Green Valley.

I dont know if I will make it to that ag event, but one event to check out is Celebrating Agriculture at the...
Well things seems to have sorted themselves out for the most part. She is still getting picked on but seems to be more accepted by the flock. Suddenly they will realize she is present and chase/peck her. This is still frustrating but it is definitely better overall.
Checked on the flock when i got home. The abused chicken came out of the coop. I think she was in there most of the day. As soon as she came out the door they were on her.
I am going to try and separate out the bullies. I cant separate them all i only have one dog crate.
I think I...
So far no great news. I had pulled a lesser bird out to be a friend. That went well. Kept them separate for about 4 days. Brought them together on Sunday and the friend was accepted without a problem but the abused bird continued to be chased. I am at a loss. I don't think more separation...
The breed being ganged up on is a Rhode Island Red. She is smaller for her size....
The instigators are a barred rock, another RIR, and a couple golden sex-linked.
They all grew up together. I got them all as day old chicks.
I separated her out and chose a low-on-the-totem barred rock...
I am in Ashford. The breeds are RI reds, barred rock, and golden sex link. The new chicks were purchased this past weekend from Cameron Family Farm in East Haddam.
I am going to try to find a friend bird in the flock this afternoon and isolate the abused and friend bird together for a week. I will then introduce them both with hopes they stick together through the reestablishment of the pecking order. It is just going to be hard to confine them both for...
I think that you have a good point. She does look to me and my wife for safety. I am seen as the top bird. I do believe there could be some jealousy going on too since she is getting more attention.
Since there is more than one troublemaker isolating them will be hard.
As far as health I...
Thanks for the warm welcome. We have had the chicks for over a year now. Things are great mostly. We are dealing with an issue that I need help with. Just posted about it in the managing flock form. All insight is welcome.
That all sounds good. I separated her this morning. It seemed as though she was even getting harassed in the coop which would keep her from food and water. I will let her out in the yard this afternoon and see who she gets along with. I will put at least 2 separate for a few days to give that...
Hey everyone I could use some advice. I posted in another thread, and rather than paraphrase or retype it here is the link:

I have a problem and desperately need some advice. At this point, I don't know who is more stressed the flock or me...
I have a mixed flock of 11 hens. About 2 weeks ago I had to separate one of the girls from the flock as I noticed she seemed to have an infection. I had her separated for no...
