Enlarged flaming red crop. Impacted? Sour?

I know this is an old post but curious what happened with your hen. Did she recover? One of mine is suffering from the same thing and I'm at a loss for what to do.

    Red crop - ideas?

I know this post is old but curious what happened with your hen, if she recovered, what remedies you found helpful if any etc... One of hens is suffering from what looks like the same issue and I'm at a loss as to what to do.

    Feather loss on neck

Thanks for responding! Glad to hear it's not too bad. It doesn't seem to bother her. Thanks for responding! Glad to hear it's not too bad. I'm in VA so winter's aren't too bad but we did get a few nights below 10 degrees last year that had me worried. I'll look for a higher protein feed!

    Feather loss on neck

I throw them a few handfuls to get there attention and call them in. So, yeah more than a Tbsp. I do give them mealworms and scrambled eggs occasionally which they LOVE. I'll make those treats a daily addition. The run is 8x8. The roosting area is 3x3. Thanks!

    Feather loss on neck

Hey there! I have 3 golden comet hens who have been living a happy life with me for about 15 months. But, one has had missing neck feathers on her front side since last fall (nearly a year). At first i thought she was molting but its only in the one spot and it never grew back. It seems to only...

    Cockeral with established flock

Thanks for advice! We have plenty of open space for free range but will need to build something to keep them separate for the time being.

    Cockeral with established flock

Thanks Finny! That does make sense and is a relief to hear. Ive heard that golden comets don't live very long due to their high egg production so I consider them relatively old for the breed. I do still worry a young feisty rooster will really stress them out considering their relative age and...

    Cockeral with established flock

We just got the BR cockeral/pullet pair yesterday. It was a total surprise. The folks that "gifted" them assured me they would be fine in the same coop. I reluctantly took their advice. I now I have them separated in a crate because they were getting beat up. They can see each but not contact...

    Cockeral with established flock

I was recently gifted a 3 month old barred rock cockeral and pullet. I have an established flock of 3 golden comets that are 2-3 years old. Should I be concerned about the age difference? I imagine he will have a difficult time establishing dominance and worry about disturbing the order of the...

    Not Squatting when picked up

Haha that makes sense. Thanks for responding. I'm new to this. It caught me off guard that she had changed her behavior. I do try to handle them often so perhaps she just caught on to that.

    Not Squatting when picked up

Thanks! She is young (about 8 months?) and lays regularly. Perhaps, she is just less anxious about being handled.
