Any idea yet? I think people automatically say cockerel because of the comb, but pullets have a fairly impressive comb as well. We just got our first (and only) NN a few days ago, along with a frizzle Cochin (also our first frizzle!). We're not exactly sure how old ours even are as they were...
This is one of our newest additions, Teagan, *onewho is good looking*, I was unsure if I could handle the looks of a Turken, but I find Teagan to be simply fabulous!
I agree that the silkies are not show quality, nor is the frizzle Cochin. He's still a cutie, but previous comments are right, the leg/feet feathers are too sparse and *might* indicate he's a crossbreed. At best I'd say he's a poorly bred Cochin. I also *think* the bottom right pic might be an...
That could be Dominique, Barred Rock, Black Star (sex-link), Australorp (though you've ruled them out), Marans ... So many start out looking just like that. Sorry I'm not any help from this pic.
Honestly, I thought we had it pinned down, now I'm back to clueless. I'm beginning to think she's not a bantam at all! She is one of the chicks given to me the night that someone consolidated the bins by putting several breeds in together without marking the bins with the breeds they contained...
So far, I'd agree that the first pic is a cockerel. The next two, pullets. I'd lean towards cockerel on the last one too, but not at all sure. As for any red at all before 10 weeks ALWAYS meaning roo... I call BS. This is my Dominique, who is unquestionably a pullet, @ a littler over 9 weeks...
Her name is Fergie and she's a very sweet girl. These pics were taken this past Sunday, making her 3 weeks old. She's growing like crazy and is larger than I expected her to be at this point with her being a bantam and a small one at that.
The wing pattern matches, but their heads are different, and this one is definitely clean legged/footed, so not a Cochin. Ya know, at the end of the day it doesn't make any difference to me at all what breed she is. It's just that part of we chicken fanatics that can't wait the number of weeks...
I think those patterns are the closest as well, but the hatchery this store uses is Hoover's and she doesn't match any of the bantam/OEGB that they offer. I'm so stumped. She is the tiniest, sweetest, most calm little chick. She's not timid, just kind of easy going and seems to get along well...
I would say that she is rather small, even for a bantam. She and the seabright are about the same size; she's just a bit fluffier. I looked online at SO many pics trying to figure her out, and the closest pic I found was a Sicilian Buttercup, but the hatchery they came from doesn't list SB's as...
Hi all! Looking for some help identifying the breed of this little bantam. A new Family Farm and Home store opened in our town a few months ago and we've been going there for supplies all winter and have come to know the staff. When it came time for chicks I found that most of them had very...
